Mrs Glover is a horror film junky which is a bit worrying for me and why I lock the knife draw for 4 days a month.

I bought an all time classic " The Hills Have Eyes " last week as she had never seen it. Genuinely weird and chilling with a great performance by Colina.

Not the greatest ever but up there.

Whats your verdict and recommendations.

I will start with.

The Fly 1 - remake
Demons
The Evil Dead
The Omen 2

heck no - I can't watch them at all - last movie I saw that was remotely scary was Sixth Sense - when that girl was in his tent I jumped so high of the sofa I nearly dislocated my shoulder....

gave me nightmares for days..... I even had nightmares from ET when I was little....

You've named some classics there.

Not sure it fits exactly into the genre but John Carpenter's The Thing is incredible. The effects and the suspense get me every time.
And i suppose i'd include Halloween in there too.

Then there's the early Peter Jackson gore films: Braindead and Bad Taste. Beauties.

On aserious note:

The Thing was a classic as was the first Alien when I saw it on its first day in N. America having had no reviews anywhere. Scared the bejeebers out of me.

The Thing is indeed quality

My personal fave is probably The Shining.

Candyman was pretty good as was the original Nightmare on Elm Street.

I also quite like Event Horizon and Alien.

Exas Chainsaw and American Werewolf both scared me shitless when I was about 8.

The Shining is the only film I have ever really found scary.

As a kid, one of the scariest films i saw was Salem's Lot. Floating vampire kids tapping at the window. Its one of those films that i dare not see now as it would ruin the memory of the terror.

A bit like if i saw Inner Space now and found no mirth in it whatsoever.

Er... Why has no-one mentioned Evil Dead 1 & 2?

Or the Living Dead Trilogy for that matter.

Classics.
