Over there
I'm confused, what are we talking about? I'll go with the general vibe these days on n.s.c. Bloody Ray winstone? What a load of shit. The so called midfield enforcer kept falling over like he was in a peat bog. That poncey foreigner David suchet? All flair and no promise. And as for the big girl up front Gillian Anderson, all huff and puff. Was like she was playing with no boots on.
UTTER SHIT :)

Going back to the original post - I read Great Expectations a couple of times and I think
the word 'bastardised' version of the original book is an under-statement. Poor show from the
BBC.

Disappointed also.

To be fair we really should be higher and thats why some moan, its like any side can press the destruct button and we crumble.

Its a real shame that we are not capable of utilising certain players properly and giving our oponents something to think about, gus needs to come up with plan b as A is way to boring and predictable.

Didn't think it was that bad: the problem is that fitting a long book into three one-hour episodes means everything is crammed into a few minutes. The humour of the book is totally missing - it looks more like a dramatised Hardy than a Dickens. They cut Mr Wopsle out entirely, Pumblechook is far too villainous and Biddie is on the fringes of the action.
Like Gillian Anderson's Miss Havisham though - a very different portrayal from the Lean version. And though Ray Winstone and Shaun Dooley were pretty good too.

I think I'm getting very old, a " new " version of GE seems to come along every 10 years or so. What with yet another "new " version of The Borrowers and Brucie still turning up on Chistmas Day, time drags on so slowly....

I disagree.
It completely lived up to everything I expected of it.

I thought it would be utter shit.

Anyway, I went out clubbing with Dickens once, he had a lot of front but couldn't pull. He just asked birds if they wanted to come back to his place.
What the Mackail-Smith was he thinking??

Incidentally, I am here all week, will take requests and ignore them completely

If you read the wikipedia entry for GE, you can see just how much has been left out so far in this adapatation. That said, as Gwylan says, it is being crammed into a 3 bitesize 1 hour episodes as opposed to some of the previous 8 part episodes that have played out through an entire season. I think you have to adjust your expectations accordingly (exuse the pun!).

The cinematography has been tremendous so far, and I think some of the acting has been pretty good too so I'm sticking with it.

So, if a more complete explanation is available and readable in minutes, why wade through 3 hours of it ?
