Just chatting on the phone to a friend who has links to Bristol City. He says that they have missed out on a loan bid for Elliot Ward from Norwich (checks out on SSN or I wouldn't be posting) so have gone back to Spurs for Grant Hall

Just out of interest, can a player be loaned out if the compo is still undecided?

I guess it would be okay unless we objected.
To be honest if he does well on loan it would increase his value so my guess would be that it is in Spurs interest to do a deal quickly.
As declaring fees seems to have become unfashionable these days it wouldn't surprise me if a deal had been done and simply not announced

Spurs will no doubt claim he is nothing more than the tea boy , we will get £30k rising to £50k when he makes 100 full cups , then sell him to man city for 6 million

Obviously I wish him the best of luck. Hope he gets some first team games. I thought it was a strange decision why he went. I can only think the money was a lot better.

Fair's fair. It was 246 minutes.

Firstly, you sad git working that out!

Secondly, if we get anything at all for the lad then surely that is good business? How can someone who has played 246 minutes of professional football be worth 1.5m? Have we got the same bloke Palace have doing our valuations?

Can't argue with that. :(

Gareth Barry netted us a round million, and he never played for us at all. It would have been more, but the Albion needed the cash, so they settled on a round figure.

I guess it's down to a valuation the buying club makes on a player against the amount of time, effort and money the original club put in to get that player to a given standard. I'm note sure it's a transfer fee as such, as he has no contract (though we offered him three years) - it's more compensation for that work (in this instance, we're talking about what - five or six years' worth?) the club put in before Spurs came in and cherry-picked him.

I think that was the reasoning behind Gareth Barry's transfer - and the Grant Hall scenario does seem similar.

Though how a specific figure of £1.5m is arrived at - Gawd knows.
