Anyone else looking forward to this on ITV next week??

The Grand Slam of Darts pits the superstars of the two codes of darts together in a collosal encounter and something must give.

The force of the BDO goes head to head against the might of the PDC in the bearpit that is the Wolverhampton Civic Hall as these tungsten gladiators give their all for themselves and their code, but there can only be one ultimate winner.....

There doesn't seem to be as many BDO players in it this year, two women competing as well. Will be hard to look beyond Taylor, but you never know.

There are a few unfamiliar names but the BDO have done exceptionally well considering they usually make up a quarter or less of the field. The true home of darts can still cut it against the big boys.

I see that none of the BDO players are seeded this time, haven't seen much of John Henderson, but have heard is very good, out of the other BDO players, Chisnall, Fitton, O'Shea & Waites have good chances to get out of their respective groups. Hankey will no doubt get a lot of stick, i see he was getting it from the crowd at the World Masters recently. Looking forward to seeing Aaron Monk, heard he could be one of the next BIG time players.

Wes Newton won both the players championship events at Barnsley, though he's Taylors group...50/1 too big for a bloke who's won about 12 consecutive matches against the pdc's finest

Bdo wise, i'd love Ted to win it, snarling at the crowd along the way and doing Taylor in the final!

John Henderson qualified through an open qualifier last weekend where I think 4 players got through out of 250 entries. Seen him play before, on his day he is certainly very capable.

I know he doesn't get invited any more, but it's a shame Martin Adams never took up the chance to play.

Wes certainly did - he's on form so Taylor better be careful...

My mate got £200 for winning his first round game on Sat :rave:

Chisnall can get out of group A and cause some damage, likewise Henderson in group C

D and H look the 'groups of death'

What with Barney being a nervous wreck over the blackmail threats, King not playing well due to personal stuff and Taylor getting beaten a few times recently...my idea of the winner is....

Gary Anderson (16/1 Corals)

Would LOVE it if Anderson won, he needs to hit doubles though (reallly! ) trouble is he takes too many darts to get out, and that can be his biggest downfall.

Chisnal!!!! Forgot about him!

PS - Am wondering who bothered to open the thread and tag stuff such as 'not a darts forum'.

The threads clearly on darts and there's a million non related footy thread on here. That's what makes NSC so unique. Nobody mentioned it's not a forum on life when Adrie did the 'Should I go out with a girl on crack' thread did they!

It's sad and inmature that people should choose to abuse the thread tags in this way.

Dave 'Chizzy' Chisnall is a real dark horse, I think he can go well like Scott Waites did last year. It really is an open tournament, can't wait for Saturday night and a week of pure drama.

He's also thivk as shit isn't he! As is Adrian Lewis... Apparently having not a lot up top helps in darts as a lot of it's mental.

Some of the BDO boys (and girls, sorry) have a bit of chance during the short format group matches, but when the longer games kick in at the knockout stage, it will be the same old story of PDC dominance.

One or two just might hang on to coat tails for a while, but I can't see any real threats to the established giants.

Taylor vs Hankey - mouthwatering.

Barney vs Lloyd will also be interesting as Jaws could still get into the Premier League with a late run this year.

If Ted can ignore the crowd a bit more this year, he could do OK.

But I think they will wind him up too much for him to perform at anywhere near his best.

Taylor vs Hankey - mouthwatering.
.

Indeed. I remember THIS after last year's event (some quality rag)...'Ted looked like a tramp', Taylor is just a legend.

TED HANKEY says darts legend Phil Taylor has had it easy.
Taylor is a 14-time PDC world champ, while Hankey, dubbed ‘The Count’ holds the rival BDO crown.
And Hankey, 41, stoked up the bitter feud between the codes ahead of Potteries ace Taylor’s title defence, which starts at Alexandra Palace on Friday.
Telford-based Hankey said: “The PDC doubles and trebles are bigger than on the BDO boards.
“I don’t know why, maybe it’s because their wires are thinner. But it is a fact they are bigger than what we play on.
“Their fans say Phil Taylor this, Phil Taylor that.
“But would he have won 14 world titles at the Lakeside? I don’t think he would.”
Lakeside king Hankey was furious after being loudly booed by fans at the cross-code Grand Slam of Darts.
He said: “The downside of their darts is the crowds, all getting p****d up, shouting and screaming. It’s not good.
“It’s not intimidating, just annoying. I’m earning my living and they were all shouting, ‘Miss, miss, miss’.
“The crowd at Lakeside are quieter – but still with a buzz. If they shout miss, they’re out.”
But Taylor, 49, blasted back at Hankey, saying: “If you could win 14 world titles with your mouth, then Ted would have done that.
“I saw him on TV at the snooker this week and he looked like a tramp.
“Ted has played on our boards – and he hasn’t won those tournaments.
“And he got a hard time at the Grand Slam of Darts because of the way he is on stage.
“The fans don’t like it and they will have their say."

Shame Martin Adams isn't there is only for the fact that he would get the chance to cut it with the PDC boys.

As much as I like his persona his blind loyalty to Messrs Croft and Fitzmaurice has made him look a bit of chump in the sport in general.
