From Wikipedia. Does that make any sense?

‘Three days later, Potter led Brighton to beat defending champions Liverpool 1–0 at Anfield for the first time in their history – it was also Brighton’s first league win at Liverpool since 1982’

Technically it does make sense but you have to be something of a pedant for it to make any sense.

It states that under Potter we beat "defending champions" Liverpool at Anfield for the first time in our history. It then goes on to say it was our first league win at Anfield since 1982.

When we beat Liverpool 1-0 at Anfield under Potter they were the defending champions.
When we beat Liverpool at Anfield 1-0 on 6th March 1982 they were not the defending champions, Aston Villa were.

I thought we beat Liverpool at Anfield the season that they won the league? Wasn't that the lockdown season so they hadn't won the league at that point?

They won the league in the first lockdown season in 2019/20 (the one that was interrupted).

They beat us at Anfield that season, we beat them the following season (cue olive branches galore :lolol: ).

The only option I could think of, yes, but a bit ridiculous imho. :)

Shirley, being considered or active for jobs helps with his severance pay at Chelsea.

He can file this under too far a commute and keep looking for a reasonable job whilst nicking a million a month.

Palace was probably filed as beneath him

It was widely reported he got a years pay upfront as a pay off.

I don’t think for any minute that he’s getting all 60m of the contract or anything beyond 24 months, but nothing has been confirmed for sure
I read somewhere that the norm is sacked managers continue to get paid as usual until they take another job - so he can definitely afford to be picky.

It was stated shortly after he left that he trousered £7 million.

That would make sense in every respect.
