Anyone on here applied and been successful on them?

Just wondering what advice people might have as I am bashing out lots of applications at the mo.

(yes i know there are student forums full of this information but thought it might be nice to see what the good normal people of NSC have to say)

Thanks

What industry are you applying for and what was your degree in?

My degree was in International Relations (I got a 2.1) and I have applied for the Civil Service and just mainly financial/tax organisations etc

The advice I have been given so far is just apply for as many as possible!

This.

I started applying way before my degree ended, probably applied to 30-40 places. Got a couple of interviews and started my job the day after my final exam.

I was lucky but believe the key is a decent CV and loads of applications!

I think I read somewhere Customs and Excise are going to take on lots of staff, to look into tax avoidance. Also, MI6 are recruiting, if you like Spooks, the TV programme ???

Have you got good A levels? A degree is obviously important, but many employers look at the grades your got at A-level as much, if not more, than the classification of your degree.

I will definitely look into the Customs, thanks.

The civil service fast stream is by far the most over subscribed graduate scheme in the land, I cant remember the exact figures but there are thousands of applications for each place. In my experience of working with recent fast stream intake, it seems most are from elite universities so hard to compete unless you are a real high flyer. Another route in is to apply for regular civil service posts and then apply for internal fast stream, the odds wont be so stacked against you!
