Dear Mr L. One

It is The Football League’s policy to limit the period a member club can spend in administration to a maximum of 18 months.

This policy was introduced by The League Board during Notts County’s lengthy spell in administration, following widespread concern that the prolonged protection from their debts they received by being in administration was beginning to undermine the integrity of the competition they were playing in.

However, as in the case of Notts County and several other clubs that have been in, and ultimately come out of, administration the League’s deadline has actually provided the catalyst for a positive resolution of the issues involved.

It is our aim that this will also be the case for Wrexham.

Which for me is a total cop-out. I will write again pointing out that Alex Hamilton is happy for Wrexham to be thrown out of the league and go bust. In fact, it is his sole aim. But for Football League, read sweet FA.

Looks like we all got the same mail-shot...and it also looks like Wrecsam are f**ked because the football authorities are determined to use the sanctions they introduced-forgetting that the 18 month rule was bought in to stop the likes of Leeds and Leicester screwing their creditors whilst continuing on as though f-all had happened.

Yep, we all got the same. I don't buy this "at least they replied" line though. I mean its a bit more imporatnt than them being seen to have placated the scummy customers.

I wrote back to the lovely Patricia but you'd be better off going for a piss in the pond for all the good it'll do.

The FL will stumble through one crisis after another until a big northen club gets shafted, and they might wish they'd done something to protect clubs from these property developer tossers.

Thank you for your circular reply regarding the plight of AFC Wrexham. I appreciate and understand the rules and why they were put into place, and broadly agree with the principle.

However, I feel I must point out a fact which either may have been overlooked or possibly even ignored. What must be borne in mind is that the aspirations of the fans, the players and the majority of directors at AFC Wrexham are completely different from the aspirations of Mr Alex Hamilton. To confuse the two as being one entity facing in the same direction would be a mistake.

There is a consortium waiting to take over, and it will do so once the High Court finds in its favour, thereby taking it out of administration. However, Mr Hamilton has no intention of letting go of his ownership of the Racecourse Ground. He intends for the situation to develop in a way which means that, once the Football League invokes its ‘18-month’ rule, a scenario would undoubtedly be played out which would mean he would effectively have won – or at the very least, he would find himself in a much stronger position than the High Court would otherwise have allowed him to be.

While 18 months ought to be, in theory, a satisfactory period in which to sort out any financial and legal implications of the handover of the running of a football club, it doesn’t take into account drawn out legal battles instigated by parties behaving unreasonably and operating to their own agenda.

I would be appalled if the Football League were to expel AFC Wrexham as a football league club on the back of it being so inflexible regarding its own rules. The Football League cannot be seen to be complicit in the dealings of a maverick property owner, and should do what it can to support the football club. What I am asking for is that the Football League apply some favourable discretion when considering AFC Wrexham’s position, should this matter be unresolved come deadline day.

Dear Patricia,

Thank you for your reply. I do appreciate your going to the trouble of writing to me.

I remain concerned however that one of our most famous football clubs could be forced out of existence rather than a positive solution being found. The reason this means so much to me is because the problems facing Wrexham are so similar to those that nearly killed my club here in Brighton. I had lengthy correspondence and conversations at the time with Graham Kelly questioning why the Football League doesn't have rules governing the conduct of the owners of its member clubs.

The person who has caused the crisis at Wrexham had the same despicable motives as the crook who made a fortune from his involvement at Brighton & Hove Albion, and yet eight years on the Football League still has no power to prevent this happeneing again. Indeed you seem only to want to punish those who are trying to clear up the mess.

The Football League really must do something about this, because there'll be another unscrupulous property developer out there waiting to do the same to another club, and then another , and another.

I look forward to seeing some action. But I will not hold my breath.

I understand the need to have to have some sort of structure to the regulations but the current situation at Wrexham is different from that which was seen at other clubs.

Wrexham is currently owned by an unscrupulous businessman who clearly has no affinity with the football club and is seemingly actively pursuing a crusade to send the club out of business.

He is refusing any attempts to reach a solution and is using the administration deadline to tighten the noose round the club’s neck.

This is, in my opinion, a disgraceful state of affairs and mirrors closely the situation my own club (Brighton and Hove Albion) found themselves in 10 years ago. At that time, we were dealing with a Board of Directors who, like Mr Hamilton, had no interest in the club and were just using it as a vehicle to strip the assets and ride off into the sunset with their pockets stuffed full of money.

This cannot be allowed to happen at another club, as The Football League stated at the time, yet here we are with another unscrupulous businessman seeking to profit personally from the demise of a football club.

A consortium are waiting to take the club over but are effectively being held to ransom by Mr Hamilton.

I urge you to show some discretion when dealing with the situation at Wrexham, as this state of affairs is purely the making of a greedy property developer.
