A good argument to have with nimby LibDem pseudo-environmentalists who rant about their opposition to a stadium being built on the Downs is to ask their opinion of Goodwood Racecourse. Goodwood has over 23 race meetings a year attended by huge crowds, includes a hotel in its complex and is right in the middle of an AONB.
The Society of Sussex Downsmen and the CPRE have absolutely no problem with this at all. I wonder why.

and the environmental groups are sadly funded and run by the toffs and for the toffs. Yet another reason why Falmer is such a struggle. If we don't get it how can Nicholas Soames and chums justify Goodwood?

Goodwood rather blends in with the downs and racing has taken place there for hundreds of years. Planning laws were not such an issue in those bygone days.

The Grandstands at Goodwood were not built hundreds of years ago but relatively recently.

Even more recently A FACTORY making Rolls Royce cars has been built there.

I think the Albion should apprise their QC, Mr Jonathan Clay, of these juicy facts.

Nicholas Soames stated that there should be no large developments in AONBs. He opposes Falmer. The huge new stand at Goodwood was erected during his time as a Sussex MP.
