I can still remember the Halifax game. The pitch was covered with a thin layer of snow but was bone hard underneath. The lines were painted blue because the pitch was largely devoid of grass. After 20 mins the ref stopped the game as snow had been blown across the lines. Apprentices appeared with brooms to sweep the lines clear. My friend knew one of them so he and I were roped in to help. Albion were very poor that day- probably the coldest day I can remember watching them.

Not quite - it started snowing on Boxing Day 1962 (although it probably started earlier oop north and in Jockoland).

Boxing Day in Birmingham - and it didn't thaw until my birthday on 6 March.

Another thing that I remember is that quite a lot of 1963's TV drama (stuff like Z Cars and The Wednesday Play) was set against the background of snowy street scenes - for no reason whatsoever, apart from the fact that the producers had no choice in the matter.

I was at the Halifax game in 1963. Sat on a pile of snow in front of the east terrace. Remember that the BBC showed the highlights that evening (pre- MOTD) First time I ever saw myself on TV. No Denis Foreman in those days - Roy Jennings and JackBertolini I think.
