Huddersfield Town are 'hypocrites' says Brighton boss Gus Poyet - Huddersfield Town News - HTAFC - Huddersfield Examiner

I have to say the Huddersfield Daily Newspaper isn't noted for its outspoken reporting so this is something of a surprise.

Sorry Seagulls, Gus really did make a prick of himself on Saturday! But on reflection I reckon Lee Clark should have ignored him because even bothering to respond gave him credibility and the opportunity to respond and turn it round on us. Sadly a large number of you seems to have fallen for it too:glare:

Pretty sure Gus was just responding to your racist managers comments, not Clark responding back to Gus, otherwise it makes no sense.

Gus is a legend. He's renowned for his theatrics and Town fans fell for it. To be fair, the officials were atrocious on Saturday, barely getting any decisions right all afternoon. Totally understand Gus being pissed off.

BRIGHTON boss Gus Poyet branded Huddersfield Town “hypocrites” after a bad-tempered match in which the eccentric Uruguayan  infuriated home fans.

Poyet, always a likely target due to his Leeds United links, caused uproar with touchline antics that enflamed Town supporters sat behind his dugout.

The former Chelsea star ‘applauded’ them when he was jeered for making a ‘red card’ gesture in a bid to get Terriers skipper Peter Clarke sent off.

Clarke, exonerated by TV replays which showed he won the ball, conceded a penalty for pulling down Glenn Murray in the box. Keeper Alex Smithies saved the spot kick.

But that was only the start of Poyet’s antics. He did a Sumo wrestler mime to imply a Huddersfield fan giving him stick over the ‘red card’ gesture was fat.

Poyet then either applauded or gestured at home fans behind his dugout for the rest of the game every time they barracked him.

The highlight was the three-fingered gesture he gave indicating the scoreline when fans chanted “Poyet what’s the score?” after Town had gone 2-1 up.

Rattled Poyet later said of the Clarke incident: “It was a red card. If you’re honest, you know it should’ve been a sending off. It was an obvious penalty and an obvious red card.

“We complained to the referee about the decision and Huddersfield didn’t like it. They are hypocrites. Next time, when it is for them, they’ll do the same.”

Before you start getting on your high horse, the behaviour of your manager and fans on Saturday was hardly anything to be proud of. Clark is a hypocrite as all managers complain about decisions and while Gus might do it in a more vociferous way, we don't have a go at other managers for doing it. There does seem to be an element of picking on Gus because he is a foreign manager and this is not, apparently, the English way of doing things. In fact, clearly the English way of doing things is to roll around to try and win a penalty and then attempt to get a player sent off like Garner did. Huddersfield spent more time rolling around on the ground than any team I have seen for a while.

The only thing keeping this issue going is your constant posting of crap. Why don't you piss off back to your own forum? We don't care what your local paper says. It is clearly biased an example being the penalty where it says about your player getting the ball but ignores the fact he clearly got Murray first. As for the two managers, lets be honest you and I both know that both teams would rather have Gus in charge than that idiot Clark.

Sorry cant remove the bold of Eccentric Ura

This is the type of reporting both by papers and TV etc that is totally wrong. It doesnt matter if the player won the ball or not it is the manner in which he won it either fairly or other wise in this case it was a tackle from behind as TV replays show so no argument a penalty and if he denied a goalscoring chance should have been a red card. What the ref had to decide was would Murray have gone on and probably scored if the answer is yes Red card if the answer is no or doubtful Yellow card.

Sorry could not remove the bold on the two parts about Gus being eccentric and Sumo wrestler..

Why is it gonna be good at our place?
Your fans will be so far away they won't be able to see the pitch, let alone Gus.

Shame this is getting acrimonious, we met some really nice Town fans after the game in The Gas Club, and they were very complimentary towards both our fans and team.

This spat between Gus and Clarke has been blown up by the media. Gus only made his comments in response to the charges from Clarke, so if he doesn't like the criticism don't dish it out. Frustrating day for us on saturday, and whilst i could find things to grumble about, it was our poor defending that cost us the game and nothing else. Let's leave it and move on shall we.

The Huddersfield fans seemed to love it when he walked out to the edge of his technical area, turned round and took a bow during the first half! Eeypocrites.

Quite right, if you read what Clarke has said as reported by the Argus then he was pretty honest about the two penalties (the one that was given and the one that wasn't).

Personally I think the ref got both decisions spot on. Garners dive was embarrassing! Not sure why he didn't get booked for it to be honest.

Murray went over very easily but the defender gave him that option, yes he touched the ball but after he'd gone through the man. At the time I was as shocked as anyone that he hadn't sent the bloke off so can understand why Poyet was a little bit miffed (don't need to see the manager waving imaginary cards though!!). But I was up the other end, having seen it again on telly then the ref was spot on.

Shit penalty though, the worst one out of the ones we've missed IMO.

Paper talk. Tomorrows chip paper. (+any other cliches you can think of)

I don't think we have a problem with Huddersfield, no one likes losing, especially to a late goal. Move on.

This is ridiculouys. It WAS a penalty as he came in from behind and it was a red card as he was about to shoot, although it is true in bth cases they are not always given. Yes Gus over reacted but all managers do react tot hose decisions and Clarks gesticulating at the end of the game was uncalled for... not all managers do THAT. Gus's remarks about 'hypocrites' was in direct response to Clark's comment which were frankly xenophobic.... unlerss of course Alex Ferguson is counted as a foriegner too as we've all seen him demand red cards. I like Lee Clark but his comment should get him in trouble.
