So far Gomez is on a very similar trajectory to Baleba and similar to MacAllister.
The raw talent is there, the physical attributes are there. The rounded technique and game savvy aren’t there.
His current shortcomings are fixable.
He’s a £70m player in the making.
Well let's see, still far too early to be making that assessment about his future value l think.

We all obviously hope so. But isn’t it a bit premature to be so certain? This was the sort of thing I’d heard prior to his arrival, and if that good, should we have seen a bit more by now (hence the thread)? Because like stocks, players can go down as well as up after all. Anyway, fingers crossed.

Premier league should be able to hit the target , when he is 6 yards out , on the end of a perfect cross and was not challenged at all , don’t care who he is ,
Alan Shearer and Harry Kane have both missed chances like that in their careers and it not being their first touch coming on as a sub. The whole 'he's a premier league footballer so shouldn't be allowed to make a mistake' doesn't really work.

Hes played really well in a new league and country on the whole.

He’s still not up to speed with the premier league yet which is why he’s getting limited game time . Give him a pre season and he’ll be one of the first names on the team sheet.

You have to look at the strength, presence and mobility in those spells where he has dominated the midfield. It is a rare gift. Caicedo had it too.
I would bet that up until he joined Albion his natural talent made him best in class in every team he played in. It was a much lower level than he’s in now . So probably some of his skills are not that developed - attacking heading and ruthless penalty taking for example. Composure and discipline too.
The mistakes will get ironed out with experience. The coaches will work on him. He will become a more rounded player.
Caicedo learned quicker, but I would imagine the club is hoping for a similar ceiling with Baleba and Gomez. Allround midfield powerhouses.
Gomez is different gravy to most of our other younger players. As long as he’s not an dickhead, only injuries will hold him back.
And if BAleba is headhunted we are in safe hands.

We are guilty of seriously overrating all our players tbh. As soon as they come in we are selling them off in our heads, to Liverpool and Chelsea for well over a few million £££.

Tbh it’s what makes it sad for me when the likes of Enciso, Buonanotte, Feeguson even Barco, etc go away on loan and maybe don’t come back. I want to see these incredible players become incredible, but they haven’t and don’t look like they will. It makes it hard to buy into the next “amazing talent” we have apparently coming through. Got to wait till they actually become amazing.

Will the real Gomez please stand up? The one we were told about last year.

Huge excitement prior to arrival. Phil Vickery amongst others in media describing as one of the best players in S.America, how have Brighton done it again etc. NSC was positively dribbling - more than Mitoma - about his every touch when he first started appearing from sub bench.

And yet he doesn’t usually start. And when he comes on, he has had some incredible misses (so he fits in well here, granted!) like today when it’s easier to score. And hasn’t exactly dictated or dominated play.

Is he just another that will be out on loan in the Championship or a relegation bound side soon enough? Or is the boy going to come good, and if so, when? Because I’m just not feeling or seeing the hyperbole. Next season be different?

Tried to find a post from you when he set up last week’s equaliser - must have missed it.

I think he's good. Just mistimed a header. Absolutely bizarre that he gets grief while O'Riley walks the pitch.
Probably unfair - O’Riley trots (not walks) around, keeping to his own little space mostly. Made a few good passes and interceptions today though.

Gomez has a good PL player inside of him. What player hasn’t missed a sitter this season - including Pedro and Mitoma.

Why do people get so nervy and complain so fast? So many knee jerk reactions. Most of our new players that come good follow the trajectory of: season 1 - limited appearances and look raw. Season 2 - break into the team more but inconsistent. Season 3 - look very good.

Some go a bit faster. Some don't make it. But you have to give them at least 3 seasons at their age before we decide they are shit or the next f***ing Pele.

No no no. They must come good straight away! And we must win stuff or we must berate the players until they do.

I mean where has patiently developing over three seasons ever got us. I demand cheap players who perform immediately!!!!

Bollocks I am moving to Leeds, they know how to do expectations.

Bad example. Pele didn’t need that long. He was in Santos 1st team by 15, and Brazils a year later. Gomez is most definitely shit by your comparison, which is a little unfair I’d say because he’s clearly not.
