That’s the one! Getting my Tims and Phil’s mixed up. Or was it Phil Ligget? Not sure. Anyway thanks for looking up, I couldn’t be arsed. Knew someone would and you’ve that honour :)
You've had a shocker on a par with Diego's miss here!

Let's not scapegoat a player for missing one chance for the 5 mins he was on the pitch.

Every player misses chances.

I'll judge him when he has longer match day minutes, but so far he looks like someone with real potential. He's definitely done well in other games.

Let's not forget Newcastle's position in the league at the end of the season, makes them a better side than us. We got a draw and players like Gomez have held their own against these sort of teams and he only joined us in Jan!

Onwards and upwards.
Premier league should be able to hit the target , when he is 6 yards out , on the end of a perfect cross and was not challenged at all , don’t care who he is ,

I’m not entirely sure why he’s gone from being a starter alongside Baleba to not getting more than a few minutes at the end, if I’m honest. There’s some serious quality there, even if he somehow contrived to miss today.

We’ve got a ton more issues than Gomez at the moment.

I think he's shown enough signs of promise to keep faith in him.

Have we learned nothing from Baleba, Mac Allister, Bissouma etc?

Gomez and Minteh in particular, I would expect to really push on next season. You can see the natural talent they have, it's the game management, consistency and decision making that needs to catch up.

Shocking miss though.

I would hope so next season. I don’t expect however, which is partly why I started this thread. To expect is perhaps the hyperbole bit. Is he really ‘that’ good, shows ‘that’ much promise as per Phil Ligget’s and other media pundits comments prior to arrival? Or could he be more Enciso, Buon, Barco, Sam. than Mc or C or Baleba?

And yes, a shocking miss today and not for the first time either. No excuses. Should be scoring those chances. He’ll be disappointed too.

Nobodies scapegoating him. I do however believe the hyperbole some on here are guilty of adding to hasn’t helped. Hence thread. After today’s performance, I’m resetting expectations and ignoring it all. Instead, I’m going by what I’ve seen. That he’s more than likely to miss easy chances (like everyone else), maybe contribute an occasional worldie, probably won’t start more than he does next season (as he gets up to speed, which every player we ever sign needs at least 1-2 seasons for frustratingly), won’t stand a chance of really dictating games without others around him becoming significantly better and if he ever does come good…will probably be off in the first transfer window to Chelsea no doubt!! ;) But isn’t that the Albion way, so we must suck it up.
Lol. You must be the life of the party 😂

I joke, but do cheer up mate, we drew against a team 4th in the league! It's not the end of the world.

You can be frustrated pal, it's annoying to not get the win, but your last few posts on this forum sound like you're completely disenfranchised with our model.

Keep the faith, we're gradually getting better and better. Sure we've sold some of our best players and are in a transition with kids right now, but we're also repaying debts and getting finances in place to be self sufficient as a club.

As the finances evolve, as will our model.

I'll put good money if you want to take a bet, that in the near future (think 5-10 not 1-2) we'll be regularly in the top 6 and playing in the champions league.

In the meantime, enjoy the ride and the journey. Enjoy watching kids talents evolve in front of your eyes. Enjoy the special moments (that Mitoma goal?!). Be proud of the players who have progressed elsewhere like Mac Allister. The odd miss of an open wide goal just helps keep us on our toes.

There's joy to find in football, without having to sell the club and our souls to the Saudi government and oil money.

Keep the faith. UTA.

It wasn’t even the worst miss this half season; Baleba and Minteh are above him in the running for that award.

I’m excited by his potential. Lots to learn for a young south American coming from a low-standard league, but there’s been some really good stuff since his debut against Man U.

I don’t remember us getting over excited about MacAllister until the 21-22 season, by which time he’d been with us for 18 months.

Class player. My prediction for POTS next year. Him or Gruda.

That is player of the season to be clear. I think it’s unlikely he will be POTUS. Although I guess we can hope.

Will the real Gomez please stand up? The one we were told about last year.

Huge excitement prior to arrival. Phil Vickery amongst others in media describing as one of the best players in S.America, how have Brighton done it again etc. NSC was positively dribbling - more than Mitoma - about his every touch when he first started appearing from sub bench.

And yet he doesn’t usually start. And when he comes on, he has had some incredible misses (so he fits in well here, granted!) like today when it’s easier to score. And hasn’t exactly dictated or dominated play.

Is he just another that will be out on loan in the Championship or a relegation bound side soon enough? Or is the boy going to come good, and if so, when? Because I’m just not feeling or seeing the hyperbole. Next season be different?
Yes l'm with you on this. Still early(ish) days though, so prepared to keep the faith for now. Maybe he has other issues that we won't know about affecting his performances.

Agree - we have to give players time, surely everyone knows this by now? Agree on Gruda, (apologies if already mentioned) I'm fairly sure it was his superb cross for the Gomez header. Getting better and better. With a fair wind and a good start next season could be very exciting.

So far Gomez is on a very similar trajectory to Baleba and similar to MacAllister.
The raw talent is there, the physical attributes are there. The rounded technique and game savvy aren’t there.
His current shortcomings are fixable.
He’s a £70m player in the making.
