Just looking through an old diary, and last Wednesday seven years ago (how time flies when you are having fun!) was the infamous "Fireworks" game

Cannot remember the opposition, but does anyone else remember the game? We were losing, as we did every game at that stage of the season before Steve Gritt joined us, and about ten minutes from the end of the game fireworks were set off and the whole North Stand emptied to protest outside the West Stand!

"Happy" Days!!!!

Can't remember the oppostion but the protest was one of the better ones, got on the news anyway. I always seemed shocked at the lack of media coverage we got in those days about what exactly was happening and still can't believe it took and pitch invasion to force an abandonment to get on the tv and make the country realise.

I found that season a chastening experience into what provokes Fleet Street's interest:

10,000+ people turn up to demonstrate peacefully: next to no coverage

3-400 people smash things up: blanket nationwide coverage.

Yeah it was home to Hereford, absolutely dire game, not the worst of the season though, that had to be Darlington at home, 2-1 up with 25 mins to go only to lose 3-2 to the biggest pile of shite ever, felt very sick leaving that game and convinced we were going down
