I've got yet more GMail invites to hand out if anyone here wants one.

PM me a Name and an e-mail adress, and the first 6 will get them.

I don't believe conspiracy theories but when I did a search on gmail to find out more about it I found this. Thought users might be interested.

Seen it, its the usual sanctimonious shite.

They are doing nothing worse with your mail than Hotmail are, and far far less with it than companies like Walla do. Your mail is held on servers in countries that *don't* have mail scanners (Ireland and Switzerland; the UK and US have their keyword scanners for mail)

If I was concerned about privacy, I'd host my own mail system and use GPG. I'm not, hence GMail is as good as any.

Doesn't bother me if they want to read my email. Most of its shite anyway. Just noticed it because it was quite high up in the search results.

Its high on the Google search results because a lot of the people with an irrational hate of GMail are doing links where the text is "GMail" and that site is the destination. Its called Google bombing, you can force a site to get artificially high.

Some of the funnier ones affect the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button, and those include:

"Wife Beater Beer" getting you Stella Artois,

"Litigious Bastards" getting you SCO

And the infamous "French Military Victories" and "Weapons of Mass Destruction" ones.

Oh, and I forgot the most famous one = "Miserable Failure" gives you George Bush's biography at #1 and Jimmy Carters at #2

Thats quite funny. If you click the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button it takes you to the Whitehouse website with a description of Bush's achievements.
