er, can sign on for a google account, but gmail is unavailable - this isn't any different to before (ie need to be invited)

Notice the (Limited Availability) after GMail.

That account will *eventually* become a GMail accouny. But GMail is *still* locked off to invites only.

As a side note, the interface of GMail was changed today which implies they are still in Beta. Stuff has been moved

On a second side note I have ONE invite spare at the moment. First to PM me gets it.

Gmail sucks trust me.

Sucks no more or less than any other webmail service.

If, like me, you can't use POP/IMAP, you have to use webmail, and GMail and Walla are the two best there. I won't use Walla because they're Isreali and have an extremely agressive policy over what they do with your mail (use it to target spam at you, as well as ads)
