serious question , do we even know if a contract is on offer from the club for him to sign or is everyone surmising ?

On the radio during the fc united replay one of the commentators said he hadn't been offered a contract yet. This was after people on here had already taken as true that negotiations were stalling.

Of course, the commentator (not johnny cantor, but whoever he was talking to, may have been an interview/guest summariser) could have been playing semantics, (i.e. the club had offered and discussed terms, and negotiations be under way, but not had any sort of consensus in those terms, leading to an actual contract offer).

If we lose Glenn we need TWO new and very good strikers for any chance of going up. Scoring is a very small part of his game, a few people don't seem to realise he is a SUPERB all round player with a lot to his game.

Spot on. Silly thread. Why does every striker have to be prolific? They don't. Glenn has been CLASS this season AGAIN. I do wonder if people even understand football - the basics of football that is. And do some posters even WATCH games or just look at teletext and see Muzza hasn't scored many?

Austin won't happen, too expensive, we won't pay above 1 million for a player yet.

We wouldn't be paying that much cash for him with Muzza going in exchange to Swindon.

Murray is twice the player of Austin. This thread is stupid! Dennis Bergkamp was never a prolific goal-scorer which means he was pretty shit and had no use to Arsenal as a forward. I would hate to see Murray go. He has easily the best touch in the team and has shown everyone against top teams that he's a class above when he's on form.

I would be gutted if were to lose Murray he has such a superb work rate & contributes so much to the team.
If we got the right man to play alongside/ahead of him with his build up play we would storm the league.

Because if he will not sign a contract he goes for nothing at the end of this season.

So, getting a few quid in Jan is worth jeopardising our promotion chances... luckily, I don't think Gus and Tony are stupid...

Murray is superb and gives us far far more than just goals. The contract thing is a non-starter for me as we no longer do our dealings through the Argus, however, Gus and Tony do not have any issue playing hard ball with contracts. Just ask Forster.

I can only see Murray going if we have a silly offer from a Championship club. He'll sign a new contract or we'll use his wages to pay another player.

As for Charlie Austin, why not? I know he's expensive but Rickie Lambert only cost £1m and if we can offset this with some more shrewd sales then it could happen. Gus knows who he wants and look at Greer, when we set our minds on someone at the moment and the players now want to come (we're top for Christmas and looking solid for at least the play-offs with a top young manager) anything's possible. Plus his contract ends in 2012 so if his heads turned by a big wage...

All only my opinion, mind you. No-one on here actually has a clue what will actually happen but can you imagine Austin and Murray up front for us?!

That would give us as near gauranteed promotion as we could possibly hope for as Murray would knock down so many balls for Austin to convert within the 6 yd box and this is what we have been missing all season.

If you lot knew who this 'special' striker is, trust me you would not give two shits about losing Murray.

PS - Gus did NOT say Murray is the best striker in the league, (as some have stated) he said he COULD be one of the best. Meaning if he played to his best ability every game, But he does not, far from it in fact, but then again, if Barnes played his best every game, he would be one of the best in the league, So saying that does not mean much really. Clever words from Gus, trying to get a confidance boost from Glenn and/or increase his value, by saying that, we could force a few more quid out of a buying team.

The only chance that we will let Muzza go in Jan is if we sign TWO strikers of at least his class... very unlikely, IMHO...

Murray can be frustrating, on his day he can look very classy and in my opinion is up there with the better strikers in this league. He's not a prolific striker by any stretch of the imagination, that's not his game, he's more of a link up man.

The value he adds to the team is often highlighted when he comes off the bench. We can sometimes look like we have little threat up top and when he comes on as sub he can often pose a greater threat and tilt the game in our favour. The problem is he has periods where he is almost non-existent, and that's what is frustrating. He shows class and ability in patches but is not constant with it, you know he has ability but it's not shown often enough.

I Would sell Murray.

If we do maybe the tranfer money can go towards the special players wages? Which asks the question, Would you sell Murray to get the special player if he could garuntee us promotion?

A: We don't know who the special player is (although some people appear to)
B: I don't see how any player can guarantee promotion.

I really rate Murray but then I also did Bobby Zamora, John Byrne, Peter Ward, Bobby Smith, Peter Harburn and others but the club is bigger than any player and if in Gus's opinion he can bring in a striker who is better and more effective than Glen Murray I will go with that and if that happens in 12 months time people will be saying Glen Who?

He'll want to be paid Falmer money when we move in so why sign a lesser deal now. Think he'll stay here though, fingers crossed with a single striking addition to the club of a top championship player, Glenn will continue to be a key player for years here
