Anyone else finding that modern prescription glasses with plastic lenses are much more difficult to clean than the old school glass lenses? A quick wash always worked on glass lenses but plastic ones seem to stay smeary however you try and clean them.

Might also apply to normal sunglasses but I only have prescription glasses.

Slightly related to the topic - my glasses have got the brand name on the pissing lenses. It's like a permanent piece of dirt right in the periphery of my vision.

Did you try turning them off and on?

Actually, could that be a piece of plastic that has the brand name on it and could be pealed off?

Alas not, it's a Ray-Ban thing apparently.

Apparently can be removed with some nail polish remover but I'd be worried about scratching the lens and it being even more of a pain in the backside, so instead I've just learnt to quietly seethe about it.

Use the nice cloth provided.
Don't put soap or hot water on them.
I managed to destroy my lens coating that way.

Quite often there is a build up of sweaty oils in the rim or on the nose pads. It's very easy to drag this on to the lenses as you wipe.... If you clean using a tissue and Methylated Spirits you will get most of this off and it will be nice and clean until the oils build up again.

However, be careful with plastic frames as they can sometimes crack if you get Meths on them...if they really are dirty and impossible to keep clean, take them back to where you bought them and ask them to clean them and get a new cleaning cloth. Some opticians will have small ultrasonic cleaning machines and they will immerse them in a cleaning solution and blast all the Face Cheese out of the rims and pads for you for free.
