Do It

Currently in line to make my pint donation & was wondering how many other NSC posters are donors

They refused my blood!
After 35 successful donations not this time said the nurse. Have you been over excerting yourself today he said. No I replied unless you count the 5 minute romp with the wife this morning I replied. No something else much more strenuous he laughed. Running my 9th marathon on sunday of 2010 was the reason & oxygen count low

This. I hate needles but the first time I went, I was gutted I never had the courage before. I felt so good, and it really is nothing at all to the giver, but literally life or death to the recipient.

I urge all of you to go do it.

LA...wishing it was devon..
HOW?!!! You should only have a problem if you're dehydrated.

nope..i follow in the family footsteps of awkward veins... did tell them that they would need their best stabber....but first time i gave i was mullered on both arms in the end and laying on the bed for over an hour all told during the whole debacle... then in torquay, they also did not listen to me..so, half a pint went to waste as they didnt have the line in properly and the time limit has elapsed..oh and was left with a cracking bruise just before the holiday from volcanic ash hell....

Oh sorry. Didn't mean to offend.

No offence taken whatsoever.

You're right on two of the reasons (the homosexuality and the tattoo), but even if I were a non-tattooed straight person, the fact that I've received blood in a medical procedure since January 1st 1980, specifically a hell of a lot of it in 2005 when my left lung collapsed, would prevent me from being eligible.

Aye, again, having received blood EVER stops you giving. Probably the biggest reason to want to give and it's taken away from you.

Exactly.

All else being equal I would have loved to have been able to 'return the favour' for the help that I received when I needed it.

Been donating for a good few years now. O+ and I get the baby bag when I go. My bloods good for premature babies, so I'm told.

Flaked out 2nd time I went, but actually quite enjoy it in a funny sort of way now.

Now on the naughty bench for 6 months now though ,after coming back from South Africa.

Never realised that receiving blood precludes you from donating. Why?

In a nutshell, vCJD.

It's believed that the disease first got into humans around 1980, therefore anyone receiving blood since then is possibly, but VERY unlikely, at risk of catching the disease from a carrier who's eaten some infected beef.

In truth, no one REALLY the incubation time of the disease, so hence the blanket ban on donations.

Due to be called in October, will attend (unless something dramatic stops me) and will be 48th or 49th donation. Very anti badge/labels where i work on your clothing. However don't have an issue with my 25 donation badge, mine you i would like to see them try to stop me as i am sure the press would have a field day !

Been at it for 20 years but only up to my silver, 25 donations . A mixture of life being good (holidays) and bad operations and illness . South Africa and the fact i am due a back op soon will put pay to it for a little longer . But as soon as they allow me back they can have it .

Yes, but I only seem to get accepted for one in three visits due to haemoglobin levels being too low (been checked out and nothing sinister about it). Dissapointed that in East Sussex they no longer do "jammy faces" biccies.
