A fine artist, not much of a shock that he's passed away. Still a shame, I'll even forgive him the appalling storm music

I am shocked and saddened to hear this news, one of my all time favourite artists, seen him live on a number of occasions, thanks for the info, RIP Gil.

See that black boy over there, runnin' scared
his ol' man's in a bottle.
He done quit his 9 to 5, he drink full time
so now he's livin' in the bottle.
See that black boy over there, runnin' scared
his ol' man got a problem, and it's a bad one
He done pawned off damn near everything,
his ol'woman's weddin' ring for a bottle.
And don't you think it's a crime
when time after time after time, people in the bottle.

RIP :(

Did well to make it to 62 considering the lifestyle. Two great tracks - H2Ogate Blues and The Bottle...

Didn't his dad play for Celtic?

He did, I think he was also Celtic's first black player.

My wife is the big Gil fan in our house. She has a number of his records and has seen him live. She says she will miss him.

I laughed at this - and then went on 'Wikipedia' [not exactly cast iron, I know] - and saw this:

Gil Heron - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Scott-Heron's Jamaican father, Gilbert "Gil" Heron, nicknamed "The Black Arrow", was a football player who, in the 1950s, became the first black athlete to play for Glasgow's Celtic Football Club

All things considered they were quite a family I think you'll agree.

There's a documentary that comes around regularly on Sky Arts, which is well worth watching out for.

one of the few heroes I have and a true inspiration for me.

The world is just a bit worse off tonight.

I have to say though he looked older than 62.

RIP Gil Scott Heron
