...Brighton chairman Dick Knight says he has been inundated with applicants to succeed Steve Coppell as manager and says he has even received offers from some with Champions League experience.
Coppell left The Seagulls last week to takeover the reins at First Division side Reading and Knight is eyeing the man with the right credentials to take the South Coast club back into Division One at the first attempt.

The Withdean chairman said: "I have been inundated with applications, including one from an ex-Premiership manager who has managed in the Champions League in the last five years."

That could mean a return into English management for former Fulham boss Jean Tigana, who has been out of work since being sacked by the West London outfit back in April.

Tigana fits the description of Knight as he also guided Monaco into the Champions League during his time in charge with the Principality side.

"I am looking for a manager who appreciated good football and has ambitions to nurture our players," he added.

Another possible candidate is former Chelsea and Watford chief Gianluca Vialli who guided The Blues on their European quest that saw them take on the likes of Lazio and Barcelona, who is also on the lookout for employment.

I think Vialli might be OK if we have the odd £35 Million to spare. I think it would be a mistake.

Tigana would probably need a fair budget as well.
