This is a bargain. I cut this from the bus website
First Capital Connect SAVER
What it includes : Unlimited travel for a day on every Brighton & Hove bus in the CitySAVER area + One return journey on a First Capital Connect train between Brighton and Bedford (but not before 9.30am on Mondays to Fridays).
The price : Just £12.50 for an Adult and BusID+ holders or £6.25 for BusID holders.
Where to buy it : From the bus driver of your first journey on a Brighton & Hove bus that day.

What they don't tell you is that if you go in the One Stop Bus shop in Brighton you can get one of these tickets for a tenner.
If four of you are going together, you can get a group ticket for the same trip for.................. A SCORE! That's a fiver to travel to watch the game!

Now don't ask me how they work this out - nor why they don't publicise it a bit better, but perhaps its because there's only one day a year that anyone from Sussex would want to go to Luton.

Can you pick them up on the day?

As it says you can buy off the bus driver for £12.50, but the group one is in the shop and I got one in there the same day I travelled. But beware they close funny hours. You've got enough notice to get it sorted in advance I would have thought.
