I'm sure you posted this in good faith but where is the proof?
I'm really hoping it's not true. Wikipedia still says he IS rather than was a former footballer.
And nothing on the club site
There's a post from someone who knew him on the Goldstone Ground FB page that has some messages on it from some former players of that era and also Spencer Vignes. It doesn't look like a wind up unfortunately.

Thanks and apologies from me for doubting.
I was just hoping it wasn't true as I just loved watching him play.
You weren't the only one, I wasn't too sure but yes, it seems to be true as it's in the Argus now.

Yes, he was one of those players like Graham Winstanley who never let us down, but always seemed to be in and out of the team. I too was a fan, especially as he came to professional football late (23 iirc) and had worked in a bank. I didn't work in a bank, but I remember looking at him when I was about 19/20 and thinking "Well he didn't become a pro until he was 23, so maybe it's not too late ...."

Unfortunately Gerry was a good player whereas I struggled playing for a park side. So time and age didn't really enter into it!

Sad days, another Goldstone Legend gone :(
