He'd been on loan there for 2 years I think. Thing is, Deco plays where he does and is equally good.

that is correct he has been on loan...

i just feel there has to be space for one of the best play makers in the world....

i was suprised a club like arsenal didnt jump at the chance to buy him....

behind henry and creating for him would have been pretty worrying....

Exactly. Shows how good Barca really are. They didn't need Riquelme because they have Deco, Xavi, Ronaldinho, Van Bommel, Giuly, etc.

Couldnt agree more. Riquelme is an awesome player thst would get into most teams- but Barca are the best team in the world going forward.

Another thing that shows how good he is would be Veron. Whatever people think of Veron, he has been playing well for Inter, but he cant get a look in.

He's probably very happy being a star at a relatively small club, albeit doing very well. Plus if he joined a big club would it be like Barca all over again? At Villareal they built a team round him. WOuld others do the same?

Also the argies love Spain.

I agree. I still think we haven't seen the best of Hleb yet though in fairness. I'm not suggesting Hleb is as good as Riquelme but he looked very good pre-season and he loves to run at people.

Good job you're not running the team isn't it? No Gerrard-no cross for the second goal. As for Joe Cole-lots of Joneseyesque stepovers but what else?

:lolol: The cross for the other goal!

Regardless-no Stevie, no goal.

And how do you know that Luke Young could not produce a simple cross, that should be bread and butter for him! :p

At the foot of the downs
Very nearly scored one and set one up, I'd drop him :dunce:

wherever the money is
SG also played the pass of the game 40 yards along the floor with the outsid of his foot to bend it into Rooney's feet to give hima 1 on 1 with the keeper that he failed to convert when he hit the post. SG is top quality and cannot be left out of the England side. I think England will play G Neville at right wing back with Ashley Cole at left wing back. back 3 of Terry, King & Ferdinand,
Becks, Lamps and Stevie G in the middle with Owen playing up front and Rooney just behind him. Not forgetting Paul Robinson in goal.

So you're advocating Gerrard playing at rightback now ?

This Sven disease of "must-play-Gerrard-somewhere" is clearly catching.

Said the reason he left Barcelona was Rivaldo keeping him out

No-one is saying Gerrard is a rubbish player. He's not - he's quite clearly class.

BUT - you cannot sacrifice the shape of the team to accomodate him. The England midfield clearl functions far better with a holding midfielder, which means SOMEONE has to be dropped.

Beckham ? No, I think he has to play. His range of passing and the quality he delivers from the flanks, as well as dead balls, is crucial.

Lampard ? A no brainer. Midfielders who score regularly are absolute gold-dust. He really is undroppable.

Joe Cole ? With Englands "problem left side" I think he is by far the best option there. He's always involved, and has those quick feet to get round people and always provides a threat.

We HAVE to have someone out of King/Carrick/Hargreaves anchoring things in midfield to release the rest of the midfield to do their thing and damage the opposition. I'm sorry, but good player that he is, I think Gerrard is an over-indulgence that the team simply cannot afford.

Its called a TOUGH CALL, Eriksson. And one you'll HAVE to make.

Simple solution is drop Lampard and play Gerrard and Carrick in the middle. Lampard plays well as the forward of the 2 central midfielders, however there is more to Gerrard's game than there is to Lampards, just look at the Steven Gerrard that played in the European Cup Final, if he is allowed to do that for England he will be awesome.
