Seemed a little harsh to me but there you go.

Thought the kicking the ball away was harsh - no consistency on this, like today how many times did Luton do it ?

Wasnt there today so i cant comment, but kicking the ball away is a blatent yellow card offence,as was the mis-timed tackle.

2 yellows = RED. No argument.

Gerrard was very unprofessional today.

Though, the suspension is a blessing in disguise. He can rest!

I watched the game live and he just totally lost his head, calm game before that but he just seemed to loose it. Definately deserved two yellows.

Two reds?? That really would have been harsh!

He deserved the bookings, the second one was even a possible red card for some refs!

however, Van der meyde didn't deserve to be sent off, as Duncan Ferguson for example always goes up in the air with his elbow.

WHAT THE f***?

Duncan Ferguson is a serial thug, therefore VDM should be let off for sticking is elbow in someones face. I don't follow?

I disagree on that, VDM certainly looked before he leapt, and he had that determined look of intent when he swung his forearm smash into Alonso's face.
Under the guise of 'going for the ball', it was still an attack, and a blow into another player's face.

off, and deservedly so

The Gerrard red did seem a little tough, as he went for a ball he had a decent chance of getting, He just failed, and that turned into a foul. Refs don't need malicious intent before they show a card now, so occasionally an accidental trip gets punished - and I saw Gerrards tackle as that.

Lawrenson did those long-reached lunges all the time - except he came away with the ball

Another example of why the cheating scouse sicknote should not line up in the three lions Jersey alongside the far superior Lampard in Germany.

The law says kicking the ball away is a yellow card so the ref got that right. The second was a tackle well worthy of a yellow card so sending him off was the right decision.

Van Der Meyde's was also correct IMO, looked an intentional elbow to me.

Last thing England need is that prat getting sent off in a crucial world cup game, Sven leave him at the airport.
