I shared a house with a proper gambling addict - we're talking losing the inheritance in a few weeks.
In his own self-pitying mind, he was a victim of a terrible affliction which prompted him to piss away vast amounts of money in the bookies and he could do nothing about it. "It's an awful thing, a gambling addiction like mine, because there's no medical side effects that anyone can see," was a favourite quote.
But was he really just an innocent victim of a "disease"? Or did he have a very stupid habit which he looked for reasons outside of his own bad decisions in order to justify it to himself?
A bit like my NSC addiction...which is going to get me sacked from me new job unless Mr P comes good soon.
