I'm collating a fans' page for Harty's testimonial brochure.

Would the great and the, er, good of NSC like to contribute...

Give us a chance, I'm thinking.

My off-field stories of him are that every time we meet at a do, he comes up to me and says 'you were drunk last time I saw you...' EVERY time.

I do remember him being sent off once for two yellow cards - the first for being thumped in the face, and the other one for being up-ended. Both times the ref got it pathetically and embarrassingly wrong. If I recall it was a against Halifax, where their manager was so disgusted with the ref's performance, he walked back to the dressing room with about 10 minutes to go. I think Micky Adams marked the ref low that day as well.

And I remember him being sent off against Wimbledon for a punch/slap/coming together which didn't actually happen. The Wimbledon player ended up on his backside, and the ref (Joe Ross) who wasn't even looking, sent Harty off.

But my over-riding impression of Harty is of a tenacious, never-say-die, pretty skillful, fast (before his broken leg) striker, who could win up the opposition beautifully then walk away form the carnage. He wears/wore his shirt with pride and he is someone who you definitely want on your side.

He is also very modest. When, a few years ago, I drunkenly (see - I suppose he has a point) thanked him for all his hard work, he replied, "Oh, I don't do much. I just run around like a lunatic, winding people up..."

Top bloke.

Punching in a last minute winner at home to Southend is pretty high up on my list of memories

Especially as it was in about the 6th minute of stoppage time after the ref somehow managed to get injured.

Another last minute goal against Millwall, as well as a screamer against Tranmere are matched by an absolutely brilliant team goal against Wolves - the game in which i believe he put in his best ever performance.

Scorer of the first Albion goal i saw, and the player with by far the greatest terrace song. Numerous positions, 110% each time. A real legend, and a top bloke.

Just far enough away from LDC
When I got drunk and started a rumour that he was being watched by scouts from Ipswich and within 3 days the Argus had it as an exclusive with a fee of £500k

I think Harty is one of the best ever to wear an Albion shirt.
He has ALWAYS given 110%, has adapted himself to play in whatever position the manager has wanted him, was one of the few to come out of the stay at Gillingham with any honour and is always reliable. Signed as a striker I always thought that perhaps his best position would be as a midfield dynamo but he's adapted resourcefully to whatever position he's been put in.
A real trier and hopefully he'll stay at the club in some sort of capacity
