He passes to players and doesn't move to offer himself for a potential return putting the other player under pressure which means we have to go backwards again.

For me he's either lazy or just hasn't got the engine to be a decent Championship midfielder.

From The Argus (20/08/12) V Hull City (A)

Gary Dicker (7/10) - " Had a clearly defined role in a less congested midfield and enjoyed
zipping passes across a much improved playing surface.
Played some good stuff, including a clever scooped pass for Barnes."

I think people forget that it was Dicker who orchestrated the destruction of both Charlton and Peterborough in those two incredible away games the season before last... yes, they were in League 1, and I agree that he does get caught on the ball far too often, but if he could somehow remove that element from his game he would be capable at this level.

Everyone had a good game at Hull on saturday, but Dicker stood out to me for all the right reasons following someof the stick he has recieved on here of late.

Dicker needs Crofts in the side to be free from defensive responsibilities (which are when he often cocks things up). I'd hope when he is fit, Vicente would start ahead of him in that position

Dicker & Crofts already have a good understanding and complemented each other.

Gary Dicker - intelligent and tidy player with decent understanding of Poyet's slow South American procession game.

However, this is Northern Europe not South America and you are going to get pressed on the ball quickly! Dicker is too slow to react and has also never won a 50/50 ball in his life.

Rubbish.

He's a good player, got to learn to improve his decision making, no point trying to outsprint anything more than the fat kid in the playground, but what he does well he does very well.

Had a very tidy game on Saturday, as someone said above he was good before his injury last season, now he has had a bit more time and a full pre-season, hopefully he is back to his best, its not really fair to judge him on the end of last season, he was coming back from injury and certainly wasn't the only below par player.

I judged him before the injury too. He needs two other midfielders behind him to give him the protection to play to his strengths and not give it away in dangerous places

Phenomenal player when he has 20 seconds on the ball.

I hope people don't forget the great diving block that he made on a Hull shot in the 1st half on Saturday, was a fantastic bit of defending!

i am no Dicker fan but am willing to be convinced and to give him a chance this season BUT he was definitely not good before his injury last season. he was equally cack before it as he was after it. IMHO.

Thats what opinions are all about guys, I dont get down to many games living where i do, so no doubt you see much more of him than me. Defensively i will agree, if someone loses it in MF it does tend to be Dicker, however he was one of very few who could pick out a striker making a run, maybe his injury had quite a bit do do with CMS losing form around the same time.

On Saturday he wasn't my man of the match, Bridcutt was, but he did have a very tidy game as i said earlier, maybe the added security of having Crofts and Bridcutt alongside him allowed him to concentrate more on his attacking game. I would rather have Vicente there personally, but we all know he aint gonna play every game, and i would much rather Dicker play when Vicente cant than Harley.

I think Harley definitely has more talent than Dicker, but Dicker's attitude is much better on the pitch and doesn't carry that arrogant swagger that Harley has. Would still like to see JFC in the position Dicker is playing now, with Bridcutt and Crofts behind him.

As you say though, it's all about opinions!
