Apparently the G20 summit protests are likely to spill out into the city and as a consequence my company (I work for a hedge fund) have been told to dress down on the 1st and 2nd of April.

Anyone else get similar advice?

Looks like it could get quite tasty up here with a few of the top boys in Risk and some of the old faces in Compliance talking about getting a tidy crew together to greet the crusties. Us hedge funders are gonna go toe to toe with those mugs and cut them open like a tin of beans. Or maybe not.

you laugh but the crusties got a big hiding off ex ICF lads at LIFFE last time round.

How f***ing gay are HR people, please come in civvies. As if half the City are going to look inconspicuous to the eco warriors, in deck shoes and a f***ing Ralph sweater over their shoulders, their usual dress down attire.

They should be having workshops on how to stink, develop a minor smack habit, and tattoing your face, if HR really want to help. They need to get cracking now.

I remember it last time round. Absolute pissed up wankers wandering round bullying women and anyone not up for it. Plenty had a go back and they generally shit themselves then.

Some absolute human filth attend these things, and everyone on here gets all pompous about a st georges day march as it does not fit in with their groovy self image. people on here havent got a clue in the main.

A good mate of mine owns a Hedge Fund, I've popped in a few times and its all dress down anyway.

I might pop up that day anyway just to see it all kicking off.

Really? I didn't think it was that confusing. I work in the city, we're not popular at the moment and a shedload of workshy, rent-a-protest types could get violent up here so my company is advising me to dress accordingly to avoid getting picked on.

And my last para was a spoof of casual-speak.

As Spanish says, whenever we have dress down it's wall to wall Gant so no sticking out like a sore thumb there then.

14th Eye. Probably my Stan Smiths or maybe one of my Y3 pairs of trainers. Definitely not deck shoes.

They're more likely to head for Llloyds or RBS? If this happens a lot of Hedge funds will be ok because they're based in mayfair.

Except I work just round the corner from the Lloyds building and the RBS building and not in Curzon Street. Bad news is that the London Bridge to Brighton line is going to stink of juniper oil and stale sweat and it's going to be even busier than usual.

pretty pathetic isnt it. if it all bothers them so much why dont they f*** off to the hinterland and and live of the land in little communes? ah, but that would be too hard for the darlings. funny thing is, its just a phase and majority will be media or marketing executives by their mid thirties.

Always cracks me up whenever a trustafarian starts lecturing working class people done good about the pitfalls of capitalism and the imminent collapse of the markets.

No, it f***ing won't because we're the ones prepared to get up at 6 in the morning and go home at 8 and we're not full of that middle class guilt that makes all those protesters stop washing, buy f*** awful clown's trousers and learn to juggle.

Please let Dan Glass be there.

i have always thought that actions speak louder than words on this one. you can hate Shell and the banks and still use money or motor transport. No. You either buy into this or dont. Go and live on a hebridean island and catch puffins for your tea if you are serious about it. the rest of us will carry on fiddling while rome burns.

no one in the west is much lower impact than anyone else, no matter how much they stick in their brown wheely bin. people kid themselves on this all the time.

Funny to hear that Mayfair will not be a target, bearing in mind that the largest HF is on Governor Place, and that's about a 2 minute walk from Victoria, and St James Place is about a further 5 mins jog time.

I for one would love to see the MAYFAIR bar getting a good trashing for their lack of draft lager, and the Sanderson hotel getting it for being, well er, poncy!

I really hope this doesn't get nasty but I can see it getting very, very nasty. Individual attacks (like today's on Fred Goodwin's property) are understandable given the grievances against the top brass but it will be unforgivable if genuine commuters, who do more work in a day than most of these plebs have done in their life, suffer purely because of the organisation they work for. 99.9% of workers at RBS/Lloyds go to work to put food on the table for their family and have been as royally screwed over by the 'collapses' just as much, if not more than, everyone else.
