I'm going to a cremation on Friday of a WW2 veteran who died ten days ago of old age. It was to have been in another couple of weeks, but his son cannot get over from the USA now. His daughter has taken the difficult decision to have the cremation this week and a memorial service when this thing has calmed down a bit.

It may not be the single most important issue at the moment, but nonetheless it is still a valid concern. Losing a loved one is bad enough, but not being able to attend the funeral (or other people who loved the deceased not being able to come) makes it even worse; the reason we have funerals is because they are an important step in the grieving process.

This. My wife's cousin died in a diving accident and the body was never found. His parents never had a chance to get closure on it, even after the memorial service.

I worry that with so many predicted fatalities our morgues, undertakers, cemeteries, crematoria will struggle to cope. Add to that the possibility that we won't be able to gather together at funerals to send off our loved ones with dignity and grace.



Anyone know how this is going to be handled?

I suspect that it will be perfunctory due to the volume, and perhaps with most families arranging a memorial gathering during windows when the virus abates.

This is something that I have to accept as a chap living with a very high risk condition. The reaction of the country does everyone proud, and should be treated as a dummy run for possible mutants that may appear and be not so benign towards our precious children.

I know we all cringe [MENTION=38333]Swansman[/MENTION] for his thread starting about nonsense issues but as a bit of lighthearted banter. I think he should start a thread and give us his ''blueprint'' for the ''sex aspect'' of his ''Basement'' !

My step father wrote his will a few years ago, whilst chatting to him he said 'have you seen the price of funerals, what a ****ing rip off. . . . . He's paid for the basic co-op dust service and said we can all go to the pub and moan/celebrate in our own way.

Fling the ash off the footbridge by the yacht club would be most appropriate.

If he 'saves' £4K + that's a,chunk off university costs for his grandson. A good idea in both our books.
