How long before US financiers own the majority of Premier League clubs and then get together to reshape the rules of English football ... maybe opening the door to franchising everything?

Can't see it. One of the great things about the franchising system is that all are deemed equal and the way that players are signed and transferred is designed to make sure that the weaker teams benefit at the expense of the the stronger, thus the top 'clubs' vary from decade to decade. As proof since 1992 (the formation of the Premier League) 5 different teams have won the title. In the same period about 13 different teams have won the Superbowl.

No, it's the more 'capitalistic' nature of the EPL (sorry, I know some don't like that acronym) that attracts the Americans as it's more akin to their non-sporting activities of every man for himself and devil take the hindmost.
