I would imagine Watford want more like £8m. I can't see us going that far for him.

How far do you think we can/Will go for a player? Looks like many clubs really pushing boat out all of a sudden and this next signing will certainly make people sit up and take note..

whoever we get it must fit into category of BIG resale opportunity at later date. Will be amazing to see us unveil a 6-7 mill striker tho!!

Blimey and on their crowds? 20,000 yesterday for Boro who would have had over a1500 I expect. Who is writing that cheque if it goes through?

But you musn't forget that Sheffield Wednesday are an absolutely 'MASSIVE' club.

Haven't they also just signed Forestieri for an undisclosed fee according to the Beeb.

Yep, also just take Daniel Pudil on a season long loan also. The money from the new prem tv deal for next season is making a lot of clubs take massive gambles this one, not all will be winners and those that aren't will need to tighten their belts considerably for the next couple.

What is driving it? High net worth people or TV revenue going up, or both? Its not crowds as we are the best supported in the division and we get between 22,000 to 30,000 and that doesnt pay for this sort of budget

TV revenue for the Championship/Football League , unlike the Prem, is in decline. Sky's last deal (although undisclosed) was believed to be flat or less than before.
Sheffield Wed spending is because they have a new rich Thai owner. Dejphon Chansiri.
He's also caused a ruption amongst fans for amongst other things increasing substantially matchday ticket prices

re: revenue, Wednesday have 13K season ticket holders vs our 19/20K. Both club owners are (probably) billionaires.

The great thing is in the Championship there's more to it than just splashing the cash, though it does help

It's high net worth owners, and the dream of the PL tv money.

Roman Abramovitch used to be a one off, now there are loads of them, across the divisions.

Wednesday are making some excellent signings and should challenge. Whether they do or not will depend on whether they can turn skillful players into a good team.
