christ on a bike . . . . a gentleman on a fine piece of transportation equipment wearing appropriate attire

unlike those little wankers in the background wearing shed remoulds carrying ironing boards

That is a picture of probably the most useless piece of transport ever known to man, throughout history always used by complete knobs with rediculous dress sense and very odd hairstyles next to someone on a penny farthing!

In my teens I used to cycle from Seaford to Brighton for work (A27 going to work, A259 going home) and on the home leg with the log jam on the A259 from Rottingdean to Newhaven you could give a car a good run for it's money in terms of journey time.

May I just point out there is no fuel crisis.

Blockades there may be but there is a contingency in place to deal with this threat and nobody will be short of petrol anytime soon

Should there be a fuel crisis I have worked out a simple solution. I just won't go to work

As Cheeky MOnkey said, likewise I used to work in Molescum and cycle from the ROyal Borough of Shoreham-by-the-sea, I was younger and fitter 15 years ago, but I could do it in between 25 and 45 minutes which was on a apar with the old Lambretta or laterly the mini van !

the downside was I ate my own weight in food every day to maintain energy levels . . . .and that was as expensive as petrol

On a train...
I'm all for Cycling, it's great exercise and helps the planet etc...

BUT

What really f***ing winds me up is bikes on trains that only travel one stop. The fuckers get on my train, smack their bike into my ankles, don't apologise, then get off the next damn stop. The lazy !!!!!
