See what they say in the New Year

Newcastle
Brighton
Reading
Huddersfield
Derby

all have two home games next,

Will all of the clubs get six points?

I think these are the clubs most likely.

Perhaps, Newcastle might fade a bit with their tendency to slip up, losing players to suspension and Africa, and not much cover in central midfield and full back, plus ...

Indeed, could easily extract this instead:

Brighton are not as good as most would believe.

Brighton are the biggest frauds of the football league.

They always tend to do well against the smaller teams which keeps them up there with the big boys but when it comes down to playing the bigger teams and the play offs. They bottle it and capitulate.

Exactly the opposite of the champions of Europe and the MASSIVE.

Oh...

I would feel happier still if we could stretch our points lead over the 3rd place team to double figures, that way when our dip in form comers, which it will, we can possibly afford to lose a match or two.

Having looked at Newcastle United forums most views are quite conciliatory about us. Then again, I suppose they are new to the league.

If we played Brighton away next week I'd certainly have them as favourites to win. If we weren't in the league this year they'd be pissing this division, we're both on course to break 100 points, which I don't think has ever happened. We certainly shouldn't underestimate them, there's a difference between that and pessimism.

That's an interesting table. Shows how much we've improved against top opposition since last season.

Exactly.
Last season we only got 15 points from the 14 games against the rest of the top eight.

W2 D2 L2 = 8
W 6 = 18

I won't be able to relax until we are 10 pts clear with 6 games to go.

Newcastle (with their record) won't even be able to relax then.

It's fair comment. We're just slightly better than the rest, which is all we need to be. Same as Reading in 2011, Bournemouth in 2015, Burnley in 2016 and so on. You don't need to play everyone else off the park, just get the job done. I think most fans realise this too.

Agree. Good post.

Good for you. I'd only relax if 10 points clear with 3 games to go.

If I'm feeling really confident I'll let that slip to 9.....

Are these the same bookmakers that paid out on a team a few years ago early who then went on not to win, I can't recall if it was Chelsea or Manchester United.

Well not all of them did.
Fearing that it all might go Pete Tong, and citing the very few examples where clubs fall away dramatically (eg: Derby, Derby and Derby) still doesn't mean we're not odds on favourites. We are.

Unfortunately that has been true in 3 of the last 4 seasons.
