I think this is the wrong way round. We should be asking LDC whether they would be fighting this so hard if the plans for the Falmer redevelopment were for a supermarket rather than a stadium.

It's not a hypothetical question as Ken Bodfish has already indicated that the land that the stadium will be built on has already been earmarked for development.

My gut feeling is that Lewes wouldn't be creating such a stink if, for example, Waitrose or Sainsbury's were to build a massive store there.

I have already asked that very question in my last email to a councillor. No response as yet.

that is a fair point.

I would have assumed that someone would have looked to build there who would link in some way to the University, say a research place or something like that.

Imagine if they were to build a chemical research laboratory there....the Falmer Nimby's could end up with two heads and glowing

I know this is not the accepted thought , however I posted last week that my mate who works for ESCC also said the same thing.

The issue is not the stadium, its the fact that if this goes ahead, there are people who would use it as an argument to drive a horse and carriage through the current ANOB/Green belt proposals.

You can imaging Sainsbury's ( with their clever lawyers and unlimited funds )putting in planning permission for a supermarket to be built next door to the stadium and when B&H UA tell them to feck off, they would persue it siting Albion as a precedent.

I think that is LDC's main concern

But that's madness. You can't just oppose a development on the grounds of what might be built nextdoor, or maybe not quite next door, next year, or in perhaps 30 years time... Taken to extremes that means anyone can oppose anything on the grounds that a nuclear reactor might be built within half a mile in the next 300 years... If this is the real reason ( ie not that Mr Prescott's decision is unlawful ) then the appeal has to be thrown out on day 1.

Here's a little info on her...

Apparently she's bisexual and has named her breasts John and Eugene

According to that site she's mayoress of a midlands town called Saltdean!

I was quite interestd in this phrase 'Scouts from Playboy saw her pictures and invited her to pose as a Playmate'. Must be one of the most interesting scout troops to join. I wonder what badges they received!

Without wishing to sound like a complete bitch, she's not been opting for enough salad over the last few years. Thus the reality isn't quite as promised in the pictures. ;)

She is not attractive in the slightest - even dodgy back in the page 3 era by the looks of things. Also appeared in one of the tabloids recently claiming to have had 7 times a night sessions with the new James Bond in her younger days.

She is a bit new age hippyish now. Her reply is quite bizarre.

To be fair though, mate, I think a 13-year-old ELS would've been quite excited by this Page 3 pic back then. Looks dodgy now, true, but back then in the mid-eighties she'd have been right up most teenagers' streets!

I got this reply back from Marina Pepper when asking for her comments... I can't help thinking this AONB thing will haunt us..

Any thoughts....?

By the way, no idea why she signed it with 'peace and love'!

I think you might be surprised at what "other" papers may or may not say. You see the pity of it is, most of us don't get to hear or see much of "actual" facts, the decisions made in smoke filled rooms and chequered halls.

We are all guided or lead by others' passions on both sides of evey gulf in public opinion. The majority sit in the middle thinking neither one thing or another and indeed cherry pick the bits that allow them to continue with their disengagement in peace.

I personally don't see this as an argument about a stadium. It's quite obvious the city has needed one for years. That is not the issue. At least not for me.

I see it - and I await the eventual outcome to be satisfied that we have a way of progressing - as an important debate on the importance of urban fringe. Can we build park and rides, sewage works and car parks on land that has been designated to be left alone? Is it important to protect our edges or to see them as nothing more than potential sites for development?

This final chapter of inquiry will settle it and we can either build with impunity out from our cities or we can develop a proper set of rules of engagement - which as yet do not appear to exist. Or rather the grey area is so grey the "right" way blows in the wind of political fortune.

It's important that we all remember this. IT'S NOT ABOUT FOOTBALL IT'S ABOUT PLANNING REGULATIONS. I am truly fascinated as we all wait (some months I fear) for a final outcome.
And by that time, Prescott may not even be in power.

I must state clearly that this is my personal opinion, not that of the council. But that doesn't mean my views are that different. Only that it's not my position to comment and nothing I say can be attributed to the council. This is in part due to the judicial nature of the challenge.

Peace and love as always

Pathetic, is'nt it? They just want to re-hold the inquiry all over again when all these issues have been thrashed out over and over again! Not a sausage about the genuine reason for holding a judicial review, which is any flaws in the ODPM's handling of the entire case.

The calibre of people standing to become our elected representatives is abysmal.

And their naive and pathetic hope that if Prescott retires, suddenly New Labour will change their mind. As if there was even any dissent at all within the Labour ranks on this! The decision was actually delived by Yvette Cooper, who is going to be one of Gordon Brown's stars in his first cabinet!

This issue is going to do long-term damage to these Liberal Democrat and Tory clowns in Lewes.

I sometimes see her dropping her kids off at Saltdean Junior school, and she has *changed a bit* since those photos.

Facially though, she's still very attractive indeed.
