No need to mention hankies Muzzman that was a good post.

I have had quite a few people contact me on FRU, some of them Albion supporters, some not.

It's scary. I registered and got an email from someone who said they remembered me. I'd never heard of him, but he remembered that I lived in Haywards Heath, travelled to Crawley for school, what bus and train I took to get there, and my older brother! I still haven't got a clue who he is.

A Stalker !

Bollocks to that. Fate may have given you one more chance to be with the love of your life. Go for it.

I have met up with the girl I worked with back in 1980 (sat next to her on my first ever day at work).

I had the hots for her then and went skiing with her, but she was engaged to another and we lost contact.

It was good that we got on well, still - but she's now married to a millionaire! We have vowed to stay in contact now, though.

My wife also managed to find her best mate from school, who she had lost contact with when both he and we managed to move at the same time. Went to his birthday party last year and he came to mine. Now an actor - he was in Silent Witness the other week.

I've also made contact with a few others, and went to a concert with an old mate (to see a band we used to follow together in the 80's).

All in all a useful and fun site. Oh, and a couple of old school friends have contacted me to say they still follow the Albion, both of whom I've now bumped into at games.

brighton, actually
had contact with a few peeps

though many names i don't recognise, from my years at
x school, work etc....

didnt realise that one girl i fancied at junior school still works
at a local shop, which is owned by her dad - been there many times and not recognised her (doh!)

one way to get round paying the (nomimal, £5?) yearly fee
is to put email address as part of your profile

eg- despratefan3 at yahoo co uk (a false address!!))
so any webbots dont pick up on the @ sign.....

I am only 55 and what is horrifying is how many people I was at school with are already dead

One anecdote that I have from the site.

When I was in the WRNS, I had just had a relationship break up. A friend asked me to write to her fiance's mate to help cheer him and me up.
His ship was in Hong Kong so I wrote a letter introducing myself. I got a letter back saying at the time he was feeling so low he was contemplating commitng suicide. My letter helped stop him.
We wrote for months and then when he returned to the UK he contacted me to ask me out. We met and found we got on really well.
He took me to meet his Mum & sister and we had a great weekend.
He was going to meet me the following weekend in Sussex and never turned up.
I knew which barracks he was supposed to be going to and when I rang they hadn't heard of him.
Eventually I put it down to experience and married two years later.

I saw his name on FRU and out of curiosity I emailed him to ask him why (our relationship did seem strong)
He had collapsed at home with jaundice and been in a coma for two weeks. He had my address and tel no on a piece of paper to give to his Mum to try and let me know (this was 68 when we didn't have a tel at home and neither did he)
She tried 2 or 3 times but the message never got to me and then she lost the paper.
He was in hospital for 6 weeks (which is why he never got to the barracks he was supposed to join)
I then changed barracks too.

He said that at the time he too was really upset and had wanted to see me more.

That's life as they say. He has been happily married ever since 72 and I told him about my marriages. I'm not really bothered about meeting up but it was nice to know the story.

As he was a Palace fan I suppose it all worked out for the best

I met up with a girl I used to fancy at school and she turned out to be a right dirty cow, ended up shagging her the first night then she told me she was bisexual and the next time we were out she got down with some girl my mate had pulled and then tried to get us to all have a foursome.

alas, my mate wasnt up for it !

Was all a bit to full on for me so decdided not to take it any further but am still friends with her and shes now going out with another mate.

Blimey, I had a dream like that when I was on the night nurse the night before last. Just woke up before I got cardboard pj bottoms.

Here and There
This is a nicely timed thank you for your words, as this is my 100th post. Although my Dad died two years ago I'm still very grateful to those lads from friends reunited who took the time to show what the term 'mates' really means.

Thanks NSCer's
