Basically, i have 2 freeview tv's in the house one of which pics up everything pretty much perfectly, the other however doesn't pick up quite a few channels. No matter how many times i retune it i can't pick up the bbc channels and the same goes for a few of the other channels too, as well as other channels the picture gets very jumpy.
Both tv's are hooked up to the arial on the roof which is 2 years old so naturally am at a bit of a loss as to why one of them pics up everything fine and the other doesn't.
Could simply getting a indoor arial for it fix the trick or could there be a bigger problem somewhere?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated!!

Ta

How far is the cable from the roof ariel to the TV's. If there are a lot of extension leads then this can deteriorate the signal meaning you don't get some channels. It depends on where in Brighton you live as to whether you will get a signal from an indoor ariel.

Both are upstairs so really not far from the arial at all. I live up by the racehill so should be fine for an indoor arial. Just seems odd one is getting it fine while the other is only getting half the channels.

You can buy a signal booster from somewhere like Argos for about a tenner, should sort you out.

Freeview signals work over several different multiplexes. Sometimes you can't get a certain multiplex signal which will mean not the loss of just one channel but all the channels on that particular multiplex. See a list here: http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/freeviewchannels.html

From what you've described your aerial and the signal it's picking up isn't the problem. It'll almost certainly be the cabling to the tv you're having problems with. I'd start by changing the RF connector on the aerial cable into that tv ( youtube has videos showing you how ). If that doesn't work you may have to run a new length of cable to the aerial to that tv as the cable may be shot. Surrey Jim makes a good point about length of cable though.

Good luck.

I had a similar problem that turned out to be that my VCR/DVD was on the same frequency. Changed that and all was fine.

The reception through my DVD recorder is awful. Lots of sticking etc, especially ITV channels, yet the TV which the DVD recorder is directly linked to, is great.
Not being very technical, would changing the frequency cure my problem?
If so, how would you do so?

Hazarding a guess here JS as I don't have a dvd recorder.

Old or new tv ?, and by what means is your DVD recorder connected to your tv ?
If it's by an old RF coaxial cable then perhaps change the channel on the tv that the dvd recorder is tuned into. I think this is essentially what you're getting at when you talk about changing the frequency.
If you're connecting via a scart but both tv and dvd recorder have an hdmi input then connect them via hdmi if possible - I think this will eliminate all tuning problems and give the best picture quality possible.

Good luck.

Evening all.

Trying to set up the inbuilt Freeview through my new telly, but I'm missing Multiplex 2, the ITV channels, C4, E4 etc. Googled the problem but can't really work out why it's happening.

Do I need a different Aerial booster, got a bog standard, oldish one at the mo. Or could this just be a blackspot for it? Am in Hove, BN3.

You could always get a new aerial and give the old one to The Wookiee.

Disclaimer: You should not take this as the truth. It was done for comedy effect.

If you are going to use a booster, install it as near to the aerial as you can.

I know boosters aren't supposed to improve a free view signal but in my experience they can if positioned correctly.

I've also found a lot of variation in the ability of boxes to deal with a rubbish signal, so first thing I would do is that take the device that is working well and try it on the aerial that doesn't.

A cheap solution (although possibly awkward) would be to split the good feed into two. I use a booster to do that to ensure you get a good signal strength on both feeds.

Living relatively near the television transmitter that I cannot bear to mention, the signal here in Balham is remarkably good. I currently receive Freeview in my kitchen via a cable attached to the extractor fan.
