The highest ever first innings deficit that has been turned around to win is 291 so Australia would need to set a new record to win this.

Nice drive on the up from Stuart Broad...

Starc reaches his hundred... bowled well, plenty of wicket-taking balls, but that is a lot of runs!

24.3 - 2 - 101 - 6

And the new ball has been taken.

I can understand the reluctance to take the new ball. It can go horribly wrong against swishing tail-enders.

I do wonder if Moeen Ali might not be the answer to our opener problem...he opens for Worcester and also in our one day side? It would also really free up 8, allowing us to play a specialist spinner, seamer or batsman as the conditions require.

Good to see footage of Jimmy Anderson running and loosening up this morning. Hope he is back for the Oval :)

This...

I was about to point out that he only has a test average of 30 (and a first class average of not much more) and is dodgy against the short ball but seeing as we've tried everyone else and there really doesn't seem to be an answer I'd back this choice for the next year or so and just see how it goes.

Ali has been in such good form for this series. His ability to score so freely at the bottom end of an innings has turned the balance of the two games we won before this one.
