Yes, ENGLAND ARE LEADING BY 200+ WITH 7 WICKETS IN HAND ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE 4th TEST...
AGAINST AUSTRALIA, AND LEADING THE SERIES 2-1... QUITE REMARKABLE

Joe Root smashes Lyon for SIX over midwicket... goes to 120* so he has now scored DOUBLE the Australian total, on his own

Unlucky Jonny Bairstow... out for 74, from 105 balls, 12 fours. Rogers only just hung on to that against his stomach.

England 269-4

A nightwatchman... really?

Close of play, Day 1

England 274-4 (65 overs), leading by 214 runs, with 6 wickets in hand.

Joe Root 124* (158 balls, 19 fours, 1 six), Mark Wood 2* (10 balls - done his job, played out Starc's last over)

What a day of Test Match cricket - one to remember, forever :)

Talk about bad fans, by 9.15 pm myself and two other England supporters left at the pub.
All the Aussie supporters had slunk off moaning.
Even when we play the crap, I still stay as long as possible, they don't get that here.

Blowers really is hopeless... Ooh it's bowled him... no it's LBW... not it's not given :nono:

I heard that yesterday, driving home. Utterly useless....he's bowled him.....no it's LBW.....big appeal though....it actually wasn't a good one (According to Glenn McGrath) there was an inside edge, too high and missing leg.

We seem to have gone a long way from.....bowled him.

He also called (Alistair) Cook, (Michael) Clarke as well earlier on in the day.

We saw that in Melbourne in 2010. Following the first day, which England dominated, they were playing in front of 80 000 empty seats and a couple of thousand pissed up England fans.

So how do people think Englands plans today will pan out? Personally would like to see them bat as long as possible, getting to a lead of maybe 450-500 then declare and go for an innings win. Not sure that will happen, but I hope so.

That would be good if we could bat most of the day then declare with an hour to have a go at taking a wicket or two.

Couldn't help but notice the empty seats in the Ozzie section at Trent Bridge yesterday at the end.

They hate losing its in their DNA, but I'm they will be back. Some parts of the Oz press are seeing the funny side though..

I'd like to see that too. There are four days left with a good forecast and it won't be as easy to get them out second time around. Putting up an absolutely MASSIVE lead and giving ourselves three days to shoot them down not only seems the best way of winning the game from here but would also psychologically destroy the Aussies for The Oval as well as getting the paying customers some cricket to watch.
