Someone said there were 3 ex Brighton players and I counted 4 so tried to make a composite player out of 2 of them to add up to 3 total.

It was not my best ever joke but, sadly, not my worst ever joke either.
I could try and say that Colwill was only on loan so didn't count but to be honest, I missed seeing his name :)

TBF any joke involving Colwill is going to be a little left-field isn't it?

Verbruggen is the interesting one, as he is the only goalkeeper in the top 100 which, by definition, makes him the most valuable goalkeeper in the world.

Note: most valuable doesn't equal best (obvious to some, less so to others!)

I think it's become quite clear that the wider footballing world rates Verbruggen somewhat higher than the average Albion fan!
Don't you mean 'somewhat higher than the average aging NSC contributors'?

Morgan Rogers looks a bit over valued IMO
I was about to say the same regards Kai Havertz, thinking he must be pushing 30 by now, but apparently he’s still only 25?!

Side note, but Bournemouth having 3 players in the list shows how well they’ve recruited in recent windows. And that doesn’t even include Kluivert or the recently departed Huijsen.

If you were wondering:

(I didn't bother with those loser nations with fewer than 3 players)

Just shows what a joke these things are. Written by anyone and quoted as fact.

£54m would make Verbruggen the third most expensive keeper signing of all time. He's not even in the top 5 Premier League keepers.

It's not written, though; it's the output of a highly detailed model: https://www.mdpi.com/2227-7072/12/3/93#

It's going to throw out some weird results, but I don't think Verbruggen is one of them. His value is likely in the c£50m range.

You're doing what I mentioned in my post a page or two back - conflating valuation with current level.

He's ridiculously young to be a Premier League number 1, as well as the first-choice of a high-quality international side. Big clubs value Verbruggen (far more than Albion fans generally do) because of where he'll be in 2, 5, and 10 years' time.

I don't reckon that Verbruggen will be the third-most expensive keeper of all time - I think he'll be the most expensive (that's assuming that he stays at Brighton for another year or so, or gets picked up this window and is transferred again a few years down the line). As Bozza says, he's ridiculously young to be a PL keeper.

I reckon Gruda and Rutter may be on that list next year - possibly Goodnight and Hinshelwood too. We have a lot of young talent coming through

I suspect Rutter almost definitely would be on there if it wasn’t for his untimely injury. He was fast becoming one of, if not our most important player since the turn of the year. Not long turned 23.
