Can someone conversant with the current rules please enlighten me !

Jack got pulled up fairly, for pushing forward upon the position awarded

However Aina Forest RB constantly released the ball late and his foot was off the floor as the ball was released

Have the rules been changed Or just ignored by the official s ?

My season ticket neighbour was commenting on exactly the same during the game. We needed “Offside Reg” from Withdean days to voice his opinion. A bit like retreating 10 yards at free kicks, refs seem to ignore them until it suits them otherwise. He was right to call JH out though for meandering down the line.

You might be forced back if you're taking the piss, but foul throws no longer exist. You can chuck it straight down hard onto the pitch and the refs aren't interested. I never saw an alteration to the laws for this, but thats where we are now. I've given up being bothered about it tbh.

Think I read something like “unless the thrower is seeking to gain an unfair advantage” whatever that means

Well both feet must still be on the floor, but the trajectory of the ball always had to be "looped" IIRC.
Nowadays players can just hurl it down onto the turf. I always thought that was a foul throw back in the day, but it never seems to be picked upon these days.

That's just ambling up the touchline
Doesn't factor in the release above the head Or feet remaining planted

Kick and dribble-ins will be the norm in about 10 years time I reckon.
Helps to reduce heading of the ball.

Pointless rule these days.
Might as well throw it on overarm.
Almost every throw in by Pervis is a foul throw. Do we need to recruit a specialist throw in coach, or tell the dead ball coach that his remit includes throws or just tell Perv to keep both feet on the ground or just ignore it like the officials?! And whilst I’m here, whatever happened to the rules on obstruction? Joao was clearly obstructed yesterday but I can’t remember the last time I saw anything like that given.

Ignored

Time for VAR to get involved.

If you watch old games there's also plenty dubious throw-in techniques and positions... don't think it hass ever been considered very important.

Obstruction these days is never given and is described as "being strong" or "using his body".

I can answer this.

The FA are all about “the flow of the game”, it’s drilled into you non-stop when you do ref training. You need to know the rules in order to choose how to enforce them, obviously, but assessors aren’t looking for you to be giving foul throws unless they’re particularly egregious or lead to an attacking advantage. In fact, you can get marked down on game management for giving them.

I see what I consider egregious foul throws in every single game I watch, and it’s simply laziness because players know they are so rarely pulled up by the referee.

We’re probably as bad, if not worse, than any other team. Veltman’s throws are awful.

Who cares. Get the ball back in play. Very little advantage gained from lifting a foot or whatever.

And this is the problem with today's refs at the top level. Enforce the laws and the players will then adhere to them. Let them ride and the players get away with it. Book them when they pull shirts, book them when they don't retreat 10yrds, call up foul throws and learn to count to 6 when the keeper has the ball. And call up obstruction. Forest were masters at it yesterday.

But then fans start having a go at the ref about disrupting and not letting the game flow.

Really? I think if they book a few at the start the players learn and they get on with the game. If you keep getting booked for pulling a shirt every match you're soon going to pick up lots of suspensions so you'll soon stop. Same with the other infringements.

Agree completely.

Or has the standard of refereeing deteriorated to such an extent they don’t know the rules?

(Or are too afraid to implement)
