I am sure we lost 1-2 to a Hull City side that included Billy Bremner at this time? I am starting to doubt my memory though - it was only very recently that I realised that we beat Spurs on that day of all the trouble.. I was convinced that had lost that for some reason..

EDIT : Nope I am wrong, we beat them 2-1.. maybe we went 1-0 down or something. Did Bremner even play

Listed in the programme,I'm pretty sure he played

He was in the Hull City squad at the time and listed in the programme line-up. Can't confirm if he played but it's likely.

Certainly remember the Cup game,freezing cold and a snow covered pitch,Gerry Ryan scored the winner in the South Stand goal

Funny that,I noticed Bannister was listed as playing against us,didn't realise Warboys joined them too

although I did notice pictures from our excellent away win at Mansfield
their first home defeat in 38 games apparently
I think we did something similiar again in Nottinghamshire a little bit later on

I started going regularly in Sept 77 with Sheffield United followed by Luton on the Tuesday night - from there I was hooked and hardly missed a home game for the next seven years until I started playing Saturday football myself.

My Dad, Mum and I started off on the West in front of the old Radio Brighton box, then moved down to the other side of the tunnel where I stood behind Mullery's dugout and learned lots of new words I wasn't allowed to repeat! Eventually we found our home at the top of the East Terrace near the away fans. Fantastic view and a regular crowd - I remember a guy called Richard who came over from Eastbourne on his moped and was known as the Vicar, Keith the taxi driver and his son Roger not forgetting Vernon the steward.

Fairly sure I spotted the Vicar at the Amex a couple of years ago but didn't get a chance to speak to him.

I learnt that vocabulary in the NS. It must be the reason why I’m the only swearer from a large family.

No regrets though .... a down to earth football supporting education.

Talking of vicars, Father Paul (a genuine Catholic priest) sat next to me at Withdean. He occasionally had to nip off before FT to do a wedding. Oddly I knew him 40 years earlier when we grew up in Rottingdean. If you're on NSC mate, you're keeping your head well down .

I remember the game at Boothferry Park. There was a persistent drizzle and mist - it wasn't easy to see to the far end of the pitch. I'd completely forgotten that Bremner played in it - I just remember what a miserable place Hull was. I've never been back

I've been, I think, three times. First time was the cup match in '86. I went on the charter train. Arrived at the station by the ground, went in, then got back on the train. Another time was by coach. I've had little opportunity to form an opinion.

Mansfield was always an odd one for a train user like me. Seem to remember we had to get a bus from Nottingham. They've got a station now.

I was in the South stand for both games,don't recall the penalty,but remember the North being absolutely rammed,thinking my 2 older brothers were in there somewhere,jealous or what!

The Derby game,Charlie George clean through from the kick off,but PG pulled off a great save,then Wardy scoring in the North seconds later,unbelievable!

Boxing Day was heaving for the 3-0 palace game,must look up the gate for that one

Pompey 4-0 night game

The Spurs 3-1

We were a good attacking side back then

OMG....the greatest opening minute in the history of BHA. I would guess it was about 45 -50 seconds. I have never heard a noise like. It was bloody deafening. It went from 33,000 gasping and holding their breath as Charlie George raced through...huge relieved cheer as Grummitt blocked it ( what a keeper ) and then gathering excitement as we raced upfield. When Wardy's shot ripped into the top corner, I thought the roofs were going to cave in. People were literally screaming with excitement. I can still hear it now...sends shivers down my spine.....happy days.

HT 0-0....73 minutes....7-0.......Ward 4 Mellor 3....Sent back out by Mullery after 3 mins in the dressing room at HT, to stand in the pouring rain. The players were cold, wet and seething angry and tore Walsall to shreds. Never seen a spell like it. Incredible football. Front two plus Horton were unplayable. If they hadn't eased off they would have got double figures.
