I always attributed it to the short-termism of Poyet. Ties in with his history of comments, if you want to leave within a year you've not got time to spend developing youth.

I think we all need to take stock here. None of us have seen enough of young Jake yet to really comment. Good though he may become, he may well need another season of being on the sidelines, (starting the occasional game, few games on the bench), before we have a genuine chance to see what his future may be. It would be a massive mistake to expect too much from him too soon.

People seem very sure of him on a limited number of outings. I'd need to see a bit more of him before getting too excited.

Ive only seen him half a dozen times, and you can just tell hes got it, all he needs is games

hes exactly the same as the lad williams at Palace except in my opinion JFC has a better eye for goal, the only difference being Palace play there youngsters for various reasons.

If played JFC will flourish and be worth a fortune

If you're right then I've been watching the wrong bloke. I've got Williams as a very direct, quite pacy, run at your man type, whereas I've got JFC as more deliberate and thoughtful looking to pick put the killer pass ... bit like Spanish Dave

I'm sure he has potential and he did well against Stains but then they were poor and think there needs to be more than that. Half a season away on loan at a good L1 side would answer a lot for me

Needs to beef himself up a bit. If he does that he has most of the attributes to be a very special player. I'd like him to go out to someone like Yeovil for a few months.

All of these. I really don't understand the strength of feeling towards him on here. I can understand a desire to bring the youth through, but for one particular youth player to receive so much hype on so little evidence just seems out of proportion. In fact, I'm finding it's turning me against him, and I don't even remember much of what he's done on the pitch. I'm turning into the sort of fan who goes to games wanting to see Barnes mess up so they can criticise him and brag about how right they are to not like him.*


(*I'm not actually at that point yet, or near it in honesty, but the hype for him on here is beginning to annoy me).

We have the development squad,indeed buying players in for it.However if their progress is hindered by them not being picked ,and last season hardly at all,except on the bench,then either the manager will not take the the risk because, they are not ready or even good enough,JFC must feel unloved ,and this season just has to be his time,but maybe he is just not good enough !......and perhaps our development squad is not either........

With the change in management, what is everyone's thoughts on JFC making more appearances in the squad this season. I've seen on the transfer thread that midfielders are required, but I could see Bridcutt and JFC making a good partnership in midfield.

Oxford didnt think so! Probably only started 50% of his time there.

Don't think I'm going to get too excited just yet.......

Ideally, his dads will have a word with him and enforce in him a spirit of determination in which he doesn't purely rely on his talent to expect a spot, but works his little socks off to demand a place at the least on the bench. It didn't go right at Oxford and he has to quickly get over that and hunger to not be one of those approaching their twenties youngsters who don't live up to their potential. Ridiculous to complain that he wasn't given a chance as no professional should ever be able to say that as their form should do all the talking and give them options beyond where they are.

I don't think we've had arial presence for a while in midfield. Bridcutt doesn't do to bad though, he leaps to the size of someone 6ft+

I might add in Poyet's defence that he said at a fans club meeting I attended he wanted to play him more but other specialists at the club advised against it.

This was in league one.

I personally think that the possible over playing of Michael Owen at a young age has taught football a great deal.
