Brilliant save in the second half to keep us in it but will McGhee go with Roberts ?

Funniest thing yesterday . . . DC blatantly taking the p*'*s out there striker by patting him on the head several times . . . . the geezer was getting well wound up

I think McGhee believes in having a number one for stability, and that man is Ben Roberts, assuming he´s not out for too long

It's a brilliant problem for the manager to have, two quality keepers at his disposal. Pretty damn hard to choose between them, but if forced, I'd JUST go for Kuipers on account of his reflexes. But it's a tough call to be sure.

What was even better was when the ref called them both over to calm things down and as he was turning DC did it again whilst laughing. Top quality work :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

I've been idolly eyeing up this thread for the last half hour. Just sitting there midtable, floating about gettting the occasional new post. I've only just found the courage to open it, and yes..its made me smile.

I, you see, knew who the 'Former Dutch Marine' was...but then it hit me. What if this thread is about some bloke Quantum knows who used to be a Dutch Marine...not nesserarily refeering to Michel Kuipers. The long and short of it, I open this thread to squash my coursity. I'm happy I did it.

Since reading this thread, I have re-kindled my love of Kuipers.

Then it all came back, the double save against Wolves..the championship winning seasons..then alas the injury which forced the loan of Ben Roberts.

The 30 year old stopper was the first choice for former managers, including Mickey Adams, Peter Taylor and Steve Coppell. He played a crucial part in the double championship winning seasons pulling some jaw dropping reaction saves. Whatever fate has in store for him this season he has already written himself to the Albion folklore.

Now, Michel faces a tough battle for the number spot, and it's this type of competition for places which is exactly what the Seagull's need in what promises to be a hardest campaigns of recent history for the club. I know you can do it Michel...believe, and keep the faith.

This has been a most bizarre post by your friend in life;

The question that McGhee will be asking himself is "Has Kuipers done anything to warrant bringing Roberts back in?" Well on the back of two solid performances from the Fomer Dutch Marine I suspect that he'll have a tough time finding that reason.

I always think that if a player is playing well then he should keep the shirt. But then I'm not a football manager and there may be other factors other than performance that need to be taken account of.

I think Roberts has better handling ability and also distribution which can start an attacking move very quickly.

I think this is a good idea everywhere else on the pitch, but in goal, like no other position, you need stability and consistency. For the sake of the team it´s best to choose a number one and stick with them through ther ups and downs.

That´s not to say the position is one Roberts is guranteed, mind. If he comes back in, he´ll be given a run of games to prove reinstating him is the right thing to do.

It´s not that I dislike Kuipers, he´s a club legend, it´s just unfortunate for him, fortunate for us, that we have two top class keepers. Roberts is the better keeper IMHO, but not by streets, he is just a touch classier, and given a run of games was more consistent and confident.

Kuipers is better than Roberts in every goalkeeping department. Except being a clown.

Better distribution?
Better handling?
Better at coming for crosses?
Better at starting counter-attacks?

Hardly, just better at being idolised by half our fans

Were you at the last three matches?

Obviously no, hence my location. But I don´t think either keeper´s qualities have changed that dramatically since last season!

If Kuipers has emerged a new and improved keeper, so be it, but I have seen enough of the two over their time at the club to know what they´re about. As I said in my previous post, I think it is a good idea to have a number one, not flit in and out game by game depending on three game´s form. Roberts is number one, and I think McGhee will show this on Saturday.

Kuipers hasn't put a foot wrong this season. He's either catching crosses or thumping them to the halfway line. His kicking is a lot better than I remember, only one straight into touch in three matches, and all of them are clearing the defense. He's been throwing balls out to free men when he can. And his shot stopping...., well you should already know what that is like!!

;)

there is not much incentive for FDM to stick arou8nd if he thinks that his perfomances mean nothing if Roberts is fit. he has done nothing wrong to warrant being dropped, that save on Saturday was top drawer.

FDM...for now
