Forgotten/rare phrases

Heard someone outside my flat this morning threatening to "marmalise" the guy downstairs. A superb phrase I thought was lost forever. Anyone else have northern/forgotten/childhood phrases you'd like to hear more of?

Oh god, that phrase was a staple of the teachers in my school. I haven't thought of that for years. Thank you!

"Jeepers Creepers" - not entirely sure what this meant.

Curiously enough "dubry" featured heavily in the recent episode of "Miranda" - yes I confess to being a fan of the show.

"Marmalise" - lovely word originated from one of Ken Dodd's diddymen - "Mick the Marmaliser" - a short agressive Irishman.

"Like a fart in a colander" to describe an indecisive person, "pissed by the pot" or "shit and fell back in it" are ones my dad used to use. I love these old expressions.

Remember at school in the early 80's flared tousers were known as 'Kennys' . No idea why.


Heard Hatty Jaques telling the school kids to 'Cut along' in Carry on Teacher a few years back. Use it on my kids all the time now.
