For the first time in their 121 year history Real Madrid didn’t have a Spaniard in their starting line up this weekend.

So it’s not just here.

I remember a stat in a football mag (FourFourTwo?) years ago about the number of ‘imported’ players to home grown ones. The Premier League at the time was top with around 74% being overseas players. Spain was the opposite with roughly 25% being non-Spanish.

I hasten to add this was some years ago so there may be a discrepancy over the accuracy of the numbers but you get the drift.

In statistics about foreign players, bearing in mind that Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own FAs, are players from these countries foreigners?
