Watched it last week - superb piece of work. Also struck me what a great presenting voice Jarvis Cocker has. Just reading "When Ziggy Played Guitar" by Dylan Jones, who also took part in the documentary. For those of us who were growing up in the bleak early 70's, this book is a superb evocation of the era, and explains just why it was that the whole Ziggy thing became the phenomenon it did. Recommended.
Interesting that the Spiders from Mars were not very well paid whilst living a superstar life. Great music but Bowie seems to have been a right drugged up twat.
Yes indeed, after many years of trying and failing to make it, when he finally achieved his breakthrough he was pretty ruthless in the way he used and discarded people around him, Mick Ronson in particular. Yet when he was at the peak of his cocaine madness, he made some of the finest music of his career.
The 2000 Bowie live at the BBC concert is one of my favourite CD's....the track listing is fantastic and standard of musicianship is just outstanding. I play it all the time in my car...why is the DVD not available in the UK ?
