For those now calling for McGhee's head off the back of this bad run, can I just ask....who exactly do you propose we bring in for the final 5 games of the season ? (thats assuming we can actually get a new man in before SATURDAY).

Ideally, we'd be looking for an experienced manager who is used to working on a shoestring budget. Someone who is willing to put up with the massive constraints this club is currently suffering under. With the obvious budgetry constraints, we'd also need a manager who can put some faith in the youth players, help bring them through and integrate them effectively into the first team. Hmmm, now who would fit that particular bill ?

I'm sure there are half a dozen candidates knocking around at the moment who will join us at the drop of a hat for the remainder of the season, turn things round and keep us up by a comfortable margin...but their names just seem to be escaping me at the moment.

So can I just ask again. If you want McGhee out now, who the f*** do you suggest we get in charge here within the next 3 days ?

I. am. all. f***ing. ears.

Hang on, maybe we HAVE got this all wrong. Why don't we do what WATFORD have done.

See Watford have sacked Ray Lewington, and brought in Adrian Boothroyd. This is a bloke who's playing career spanned from Hearts to Huddersfield, Peterborough and Mansfield. A bloke who's experience stems from running the youth and reserves at Norwich, Peterborough, Leeds and West Brom. A bloke who has a UEFA coaching badge, and is currently studying at Warwick Uni on the PFA's own managerial course. A bloke with no managerial experience, who has taken over Watford with 7 games to go, and so far has lost his opening 2.

And there's us, sticking with Mark McGhee for this run in. Wow, we must be MENTAL eh ? I so much wish we had Watfords new man in charge.

Don't you ?

Jesus Christ managed to turn water into wine, but even he would turn down the Albion job given the state of our squad, our best two players have been sold this season and two of our more creative players are suspended for the next game.

You can't polish a turd, so don't point the finger at McGhee, when the people who got us in this mess are called Archer, Bellotti and Stanley.

I don't think we should get rid of McGhee but I do think he has made some unusual team selections (Virgo in midfield, anyone ?) and needs to clamp down on the squad getting silly bookings.

IF we do go down i would love a manager like mcghee in charge in league 1. after all he has guided 3 teams (?) from that division. maybe he would be the right man to do it again. and as said above who the hell would we get in charge for our last 5 games? maybe we should give hinsh another go, as he only lost 12 or 13 in a row (not 6 anyway). mcghee has done well this season until these 6. if we can win at places like sheff utd and west ham then why not burnley and rotherham?

So I gather you've written us off already this season then K G. Or do you want McGhee out regardless of whether we beat the drop ? Does everything McGhee achieved with this squad of players over the last 18 months or so count for nothing now because we've suddenly lost 6 on the bounce ?

You say "there are people out there" - who are they ? Who could come in and do better with this squad than McGhee ? Who would even WANT to come to this club at the moment.

As ever, it seems some people look at the latest set of results, want a change for changes sake because SOMEONE must have a magic wand to make it all better...but don't really have any tangible answers for a viable alternative.

That's too simplistic, and putting the blame on our shit run on those three jokers doesn't make sense

But I agree, you can't blame McGhee for having such a useless squad. If the players aren't good enough, then you can't really blame the manager..............although what has happened to the team that performed so brilliantly at White Hart Lane?

McGhee Out? I didn't realise these people were actually making a serious suggestion.
Didn't expect points at PNE. Red card and Cardiff result obviously very unfortunate but we can still get out of this situation.

I keep seeing this comment about the performance at WHL, and why we can't reproduce it now. But football just doesn't work like that does it. The cup tie at WHL was a one-off match against Premiership opposition in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. We had nothing to lose. The pressure was off, Spurs under-performed, and we rose to the occasion to run them very close.

You've only got to look at 1983 and to compare cup performances to league. There's no logical reason for it - and yes, the League is the bread-and-butter, and far more important than any cup run. But I think the relief of a cup game (and a glamourous one at that) in the middle of a League campaign, where the pressure is off a bit more, can be very liberating for players.

They're not trying any less right now than they were at Spurs - in fact, they're probably trying even harder, which might be part of the problem.

They all got new contracts and are in the comfort zone
