I've just started another research project looking at whether Britain is regressing to a less civil state with less social constraint and more casual aggression. The questionnaire has just gone live at Barbaric Britain? and as you’ll see, the questions are very current. Is British society going through what sociologists would refer to as a de-civilising trend? Have your say in the survey and thanks in advance.

Racism, sexism, homophobia etc, why is everyone so hung up on these subjects. Apart from the USA we seem to be the only country in the world where anyone gives a fiddlers on the various matters. It's about time the jolly old UK pulled it's socks up and tried to do an honest days work instead. I've always believed that those who feel so discriminated against seem to be suffering from massive inferiority complexes. Simple remedy, whistle a happy tune, turn around, walk away and get on with life.

Oooh, it's all political correctness gone mad, innit!

What if serious and systematic discrimination is preventing you from 'getting on with life' in the first place?!

Perhaps you should be grateful that you apparently don't suffer from debilitating discrimination, but appreciate that not everyone is as fortunate or as privileged as you; a little less sneering contempt, and a little more empathy or humility wouldn't go amiss.

For your information I have been subject to racial abuse, in Egypt and in Fulham by a group of blacks. I didn't go crying to the authorities. May be it's because I was brought up to be strong with the stiff upper lip attitude. I was bullied at school but got on with life.

Done, tick. Good luck Academic but don't forget to enjoy life. I did some social science in the past and spent so long on these things I nearly forgot to socialise in the real world myself!

'Barbaric Britain'? What does that make Syria then?

I refuse to even contemplate a survey which postulates such a ridiculous hypothesis. Utter horseshit.

I did it yesterday morning, but I'm not sure if my response registered. It seemed to be very quick. (I was the one banging on about football matches turning into Cliff Richard concerts).

No, I did not know that. You're right, that IS a worry, and in Jubilee year too. The Barbarians really are at the gates if Sir Cliff can't have a hit.
