Have you managed to re-sign Leon yet? He was on 7k and I couldnt offer him enough to sign a new contract, then iin the summer when it ran out he only wanted 5k, which I could offer!
Nope but I'm glad he goes lower :)
On my old game I re-signed him but I had more money as I got to the quarters of the League Cup.

I made myself in the editor, I'm bloody AMAZING.

Mind you, I play with the mighty VILLA. Brighton are SHIT.

I've just started. It seems much harder in this game than previous CM games. This is my team so far:

Roberts

Hinshelwood Melville Cullip Mayo

Currie Nallis ( from leicester) Carpenter Jess ( from Forest)

Van Vossen ( free ) Knight

Playing 4-4-2 but have only won i game so far so I need help with tactics and players.

Haven't done a Brighton game yet but Aaron Brown (on a free) and Scott Fitzgerald have helped me storm league 2 with Swansea.

Falmer, soon...
You can do a lot worse than take some info of this (from the Si forums)

You've started up FM. You've picked your team. You've sent out scouts, gotten new staff and selected your formation. Now what ?

Well some people like to make their own tactics and some like to download and try others work ? But what's the most commen mistake being made ? Instructing players to do things they cannot do No matter what team you are, 2 are never alike and have diffrent strengths and weaknesses.

I was hoping now with Liverpool and Cleon's diamond 442 (hope it's ok with you Cleon) to show you how to play your team to your strengths

Now, let's get started. For those who do not know, Cleon's tactic looks like this :

FC FC
AMC
| | |
ML MR
DMC
DL DC DC DR
GK

Now when looking at 'Pool I have an MC (Gerrard) who is a good AMC but cannot play AMC so I decide to take the AMC down to MC with an arrow up instead just to make sure he doesn't play out of position. Is this bad ? No the other way around, I'm playing him in his natural position where he'll get most of his job done right. So how will I line up ? I think my strongest lineup would be :

Baros Cisse
Kewell Gerrard Garcia
Alonso
Riise Hyypia Carra Finnan
Dudek

So let's start seeing how the squads like eh ? Let's start with the goalkeeper!

The tactics distribution was set to Defender Collect and doesn't really require any skill but lets have a look at what Dudek can do with the ball. So I check Throwing and Kicking. Hmmm... Throwing is 12 and Kicking 10. Not too good really so I'm going to have to keep him on defender collect to keep it simple. Had any of these been on 15 then naturally I would of let him kick long or throw quickly. Had he been good at both then I would of let distribute mixed.

Now that's sorted, how about the fullbacks Riise and Finnan ? The tactic has short passing, often fwrd runs and crossing and mixed RWB, TTB and long shot.

Now let's look at Riise. Well his passing is 11 so he is decent at it so I'll keep TTB as Mixed and keep passing short. He has a dribbling of 12 which also is decent so I'll leave him on mixed. His crossing is 14 which is decent but for the PL maybe not good enough so I'll probably changed to mixed crossing but would it later on in the season go up to 15 I'll change to Often. His OTB rating is 12 so I wouldn't want him running forward all the time because he simply isn't good enough at finding space so I'll put him on mixed. Riise's tackling is 12 so I'm going ot stick to normal tackling since he won't get the ball all the time on hard. But wait! He has a rating of 16 long shot! That's his strength So I put Long Shots often on Riise since then I know, when the opportunity arises, he'll be good enough to score

So what about Finnan on the right ? OTB 13, Crossing 13, Dribbling 13, Passing 11 and Long Shot 7. I'm setting everything to mixed since he ain't bad at it all but he has no real strength except long shots which I'll set to Rarely due to him being very porr in that area. He does have a rating of 15 in tackling thou. Would it be wise for him to tackle hard thou ? This would be a time to decide on match day! If the winger he is up against is skillfull then maybe him diving into every challenge isn't so smart. But of the winger is crap-ish then I'd probably let him tackle him hard since I'm quite sure he'll win the ball. I'll put him on hard for now

Now for the DC's. DC's are a quite straight forward, if they've got good passing then let them pass direct since you know they'll fin their man. If they've got good long shots then don't hesitate to apply since maybe after a cornor they'll get the ball and it helps if they can pop one from outside the box. Hyypiä and Carra thou are not good at any of these skills and I'm just gonna let them play it simple!

Now, Alonso, the DMC. He fits perfectly into the tactic which is set to TTB often and cross ball mixed and tackle hard. His passing is 16, crossing 13 and tackling 16. I'll also put him on mixed passing since he can pass direct too! But wait, there's more! His long shot rating is 14 so I think I'm going to set long shots to mixed since there is a chance he could put one into the back of the net Could there be more ? Actually yes, his creative rating is 15 so you'll know, eveytime he has the ball he'll do something good with it. So why let him suffer on 10 in CF ? I'm upping it to 15 so he plays creative but not too much since he is my anchor in midfield.

Now for Garcia, my MR. Hmmm... he can't dribble very well and can't cross very well (13 in both) So i'm going to stick RWB and Cross ball to mixed. But his OTB rating is 17 so i'll keep FWRD runs as often. What else can he do ? Well his passing is 15 so maybe TTB ? Mixed passing ? His long shot rating is 16 so on that goes! His creativity is the same as Alonso, 15! SO I'll up his creative freedom aswell since he also is someone who'll do good with the ball at his feet

What about Kewell on the left ? Well Kewell has got alot of 14's on all attribues linked with the ML position so i'll probably change it all to mixed and hope Garcia pulls all the strings with the offensive play.

Now for my key player in midfield, Gerrard! He can do almost anything with a ball, Cross (15) TTB (Passing 16) FWRD Run (OTB 15) high Creative Freedom (Creativity 15) Long shots (15) and tackle (19) So I'm putting high CF, Often on all instructions, even crossing because he ca do it even thou he is MC and mixed passing!

Last but not least, the two strikers, Baros and Cisse. Cisse is great off the ball (19) and a good long shooter (17) his dribbling ain't too bad (14) and neither is his crossing (14) or passing (13) so I'll put FWRD Runs and Long shots often and TTB, Crossing and RWB on mixed to suit the kind of striker he is.

And what about Baros ? He is also a great OTB player (17) and great dribbling (16). Decent long shots (14), crossing (12) and passing (12). So on goes RWB and FRWD runs on often and Long shots, crossing and TTB on mixed.

So what If your not blessed with the players Liverpool have ? What if you've only got a good crossing DL ? Can you still follow these guidelines ? Of course you can, because you know that you'll want to get that DL into and if you've got loads of players doing stuff they can't pull off then he'll probably never get the space to do it. An example was when I was playing with Hartlepool, my DL had great crossing and everyone else was pretty poor. So I kept everyone else simple except for him who I really pushed to get forward. He won most of the games for me due to his crossing ability and was the cause for Hartlepool going up into the Championship

So are we all set to go ? Not quite yet. What about Set Peices ? WHAT!?!? Don't tell me you neglect set peices ? These can win games!! They can be the decider who takes home that CL title. YOU OR THEM! SO let's check who is the best cornor, free kick, throw inner and penalty taker in this 'Pool team. Well when it comes to cornors, Riise is the best on 17. So naturally he'll take the cornors. But he's on stay back at attacking cornors. Well someone is going to have to take his place to defend which I think, logicly, Kewell should do since he is the one who is going to make least inpact at a cornor.

When it comes to free kicks, Alonso is best (17) So I know he'll deliver some good ens! Long Throws again Riise is good, he has 19 (!!) so this is definatly a weapon I can use. So I make sure I have four players back on throw ins and make sure my tallest guy (Hyypiä in my case) is near post. This is a very dangerous weapon and my most dangerous when it comes to all set peices! Garcia is my man to take the pens, 17 is his rating and that's good enough for me!

My first friendly is against Cologne and now I'm just going to check what happens.

Wow! 3-0 away. Good result! And why did it happen ? Because I played to my strengths and didn't play any players above their capacity.

Can you do this with any team ? Sure! You just have to find who is good at whathe does and make sure he gets the ball or his cornors and freekicks

I hope this helps anybody who is making their own tatics or downloading others!

Polegate
Chris Doig (small fee from Forest) - solid left-back/centre-back

Kenny Lunt - Mentioned before not sure if you have enough cash to sign him before end of season though. If you get him stick him cm or am and you'll do ok.

Oh and Nicolas on loan is a damn good move!
