Would say I am a kind of expert in chimineas having had a few over the years,
first one was metal lasted around 4 years however the rust got to it and disintegrated one winter/spring
after realising it needed replacement I got a clay one, fantastic however the design on it (paintwork) comes off very quickly and weathers. Anyhow if you do purchase a clay one I would recomend not inviting your brother in law over and sitting by there one evening, aŵ few beers too many he stumbled, reached out for support and pushed it over. That was chiminea #2 broken
chiminea #3 a metal one is now a year or so old, I keep it covered when not used. The chiminea already is showing signs of rust. Typically we have a burn up twice a week in the summer, sitting out by the fire. We have burnt everything on there from old sheds, decking, chunks of trees cut down in garden (dried out first)
infact act I may go out in a minute and light up
